Egypt to buy 2 Mistral warships from France

Please, have we ever seen a USS Wasp filled with a thousand US Navy SEALs onboard serving as a MEU?

They are a maritime special operations force. Environment of a seaborne expeditionary force is completely different than that of a SF force. Besides, you'll decrease the quality of your Naval SOF. No way Egypt will do that.

It's an umbrella term for the entirety of the Egyptian marine force rather than just for maritime SOF.

You have money, resources, manpower and US backing if you carry on being under their influence.
I see no reason to form such a force.

But the politicians do.

Do you know if the Russian-made equipment made for the Mistrals has been fully removed yet? I wonder if Russia helped finance a part of the cost in return for Egypt buying a number of Ka-52 helicopters? If that's the case I see no need to remove the initial Russian equipment from the Mistrals.

Some reports say that the equipment won't be removed. Defense News quoted French official saying that Russia agreed that Russian equipment fitted on the Mistrals could stay on board if Egypt bought them.

But the politicians do.

1- then why I don't see any units more than a battalion-scale that is specialized on marine operations..

2- I didn't meant that. I meant to say "I see no obstacle to form such a force"

Because it's just that small :cray:

The Navy is reliant on the Army for manpower to conduct large scale (in Egyptian terms that is) amphibious operations. Something that will hopefully be rectified in the coming years.

I probably shouldn't but im feeling jealous of Egyptian navy :D

Ehemm. I think you meant the Gulf Peninsula :)

How about logistics of two ships and those to inducted to escort them?

. .
This really seems like a waste of money. Aside from the logistic and maintenance issues, does Egypte even have the neccesary warships to form even a single battle group?

@atatwolf

Because these 2 Mistrals were built to Russian customisation. It does not feature conventional propulsion system rather Azimuthal Thrusters which is one of the main requirements by our navy. Also comes in the factor of size and displacement.

When India goes for an LHD, then Mistral will surely be a front runner but these two simply didn't fit in our forces .

.
It's likely that all 3 parties are somehow involved (Egypt, ...KSA and UAE). It would come as no surprise either as a stable neighboring Egypt has historical always meant a stable KSA. Looking towards the future I see nothing but increased Egyptian and Saudi Arabian cooperation.
...

Bingo !!! You are a genius my brother ! :partay:

Mediterranean: The Egyptian navy's headquarters and main base is at Alexandria on the Mediterranean Sea with other Mediterranean naval bases at Port Said and Mersa Matruh.
Red Sea: Egypt naval bases on the Red Sea are Hurghada, Safaga, Berenice and Suez

The Egyptian Navy will be restructured into two different fleets, one for the Mediterranean sea and the other for the Red Sea. This in a context where the safety of shipping in the Red Sea is becoming increasingly important

The Egyptian Navy is the largest navy in the Middle East and Africa, and is the seventh largest in the world measured by the number of vessels.

Amphibious fleet
This is a modest fleet of relatively elderly vessels. With no minor landing craft or fast assault craft, plans to conduct unilateral, opposed beach landings are unlikely. The LSMs and LCUs can operate rubber assault craft but probably in the
reconnaissance role or special forces role rather than to hold a beach prior to a main landing. If all craft were operational, then a theoretical MBT lift of 45 could be achieved.
There has been a requirement for LPD/LST type ships for some years. Russia is a possible supplier of second-hand ships if funds can be found. RoRo ferries are chartered for amphibious exercises.

Looking at the landing ships and craft, these are 1960s-1970s era ships. You may well see a bunch of these retired (total crew: 495 hands). Even if the Egyptian navy does not immediatelyh retires some more of its older - manpower intensive - ship and/or replaces them with new, more automated ships, sufficient manpower should be available. Mistral complement is 160 (apparently 20 officers, 80 petty officers, and 60 quarter-masters) .

What the rest of the fleet will look like by 2020 was already pointed out.

Egypt to buy 2 Mistral warships from France - The Hindu

French President Francois Hollande and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi have agreed on the purchase by Egypt of the two French Mistral helicopter carriers whose planned sale to Russia was cancelled.

"They agreed on the principle and the terms of the acquisition by Egypt of the two Mistral warships, Mr. Hollande's office said in a statement on Wednesday.

How much money will be required and who is paying it? Also Egypt is buying 50 Ka-52 Alligators for these ships and I am sure some other Kamovs Naval support helis too.

these big boys are ours now ;)

View attachment 259574

Can both accommodate 25-30 helis like kamovs each?

.
Aircraft carried: typically 16 heavy or 35 light helicopters or a mix

Russia was going to use a mix of Ka-52K attack heli's, Ka-27 ASW heli's and possibly K-29 Assault (troop transport) helis
Kamov Ka-52K attack helicopters (Naval version of Ka-52 which is under construction)
Kamov Ka-29TB transport helicopters
Kamov Ka-27P ASW helicopters.
