SEOUL, South Korea: South Korea has announced that it has signed a $1.6 billion arms deal with Egypt.

This marks South Korea's largest-ever arms export contract.

The office of President Moon Jae-in in Seoul said the agreement included providing K9 self-propelled howitzers, manufactured by Korea's Hanwha Defense, to Egypt.

Moon's office did not disclose other details on the agreement, and there was no comment from Egypt.

The South Korean announcement came two weeks after Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah el-Sissi met with Moon in Cairo, which was the first visit by a South Korean president to Egypt in 16 years, according to the state-run al-Ahram newspaper.

Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki was in South Korea on February 1 to attend the signing ceremony, Egypt's military said in a statement.

The Egyptian military also said South Korea and Egypt signed two memorandums of understanding on mutual military cooperation.

Egypt, one of the world's leading arms importers, has in recent years upgraded its military, striking massive arms deals with Western nations and Russia.

if it were strategic why did we just kick them out of the african union? Why is israel strongly opposing any military deal and the development in sinai? Why were they planning a train road that would challenge the suez canal but that failed due to the new train rail between ain el sokhna port and alexandria port? No military excercises between the two and we dont buy their weapons or even sell ours to them. They even rejected the sale of the iron dome to UAE because they feared its secrets would be leaked to us as we have a very close relationship with UAE. this is more like a cold peace than it is a strategic ally situation we all know a war is coming to sinai sooner or later.

Israel is not TR's strategic partner. We haven't started to buy(or sell) billions of cubic meters of natural gas to Israel, like Egypt yet. To do this, some conditions must first be met such as EEZ. The other trade volume between the two countries is based on the free market and has no strategic value or any state bounded structure. Apart from that, political relations have already been turned upside down. France probably has killed more 10 times Muslims than Israel and is now its strategic partner with long-term loans over french made systems to the Egyptian armed forces modernisations. Egypt also opened its territory to this country in the fight against terrorism. Likewise, Russia and the USA have same situation with Israel, and these countries also have relations with the Egyptian army on a strategic scale, and and have special places in critical areas such as nuclear energy, just like Turkiye... To be honest, such populist discourses are just nonsense, and there is no point in demagogy on against of a country.

If I have to say smthng about topic: The Korean K9 is a very successful self-propelled howitzer system. Similar works in Turkiye are based on the same infrastructure. Starting from this infrastructure, we have finally reached that FIRTINA-II variant. I have no doubt that Egypt will create a unique and very successful system by making its own customization through this system.

Usrael does not.. so Egypt signd a deal with it to import it natural Gas and liquefy it for export.. Egypts wins a lot in this deal.. it buys the Gas from Usrael at a low price process it and sells it at international price..
