so what is your opinion about this prototype?
That is not new, I have seen it before I am sure. If Iran wishes to use AA guns in warfare, then this design makes a lot more sense then the manned AA guns we saw on the back of pick up trucks in the latest army games. It also gives the APC some serious anti personnel firing power as it moves across the battlefield.
However, all these prototypes (Zolifqar included) are considered non essential by military command and will not be adopted during a tight budget and with more pressing needs.
Back to the new Zolifiqar prototype:
It was mentioned a couple years ago that Iran was working on depleted uranium and depleted uranium tank shells.
As you know the M1 Abrams US army variant contains both depleted uranium and uranium tank shells. It was widely documented in Iraq. I think Iran got its hands on the technology during US occupation.
As Russia based tanks don’t use DU, it didn’t make sense to try to tack it on to the T-72s nor the Karrar. Thus it makes sense that the Zolifqar would adopt a more M1 Abrams like look as the DU technology likely came from that subject.
Nonetheless, it still shows us as the Zolifqar project is under slow R&d. But this design has at least modernized the dated prototypes we have seen in the past. It’s a viable opponent to the Karrar once it’s fully developed (APS, ew/laser jammer, new turret, etc)
Still doesn’t mean Zolifqar is close to mass production. Even Karrar still hasn’t been produced outside of prototype numbers.
