Elementary school and university uses Indonesian language, but English as learning subject has been taught since elementary school. University text book predominantly uses Indonesian written text book, but English text books are also used at some universities. Master degree use many English text book though.

Most upper middle class Indonesian also go to English course during Elementary school/High school/University to improve their English communication skills. LIA English course for instant is quite famous and has many schools around Jakarta. I also learn English at LIA at high school and then continue until university.

There is also Islamic organization like Muhammadiyah who has many schools and universities. Muhammadiyah is second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia.

They have many universities and present in many Indonesia provinces, even they just establish their university in Malaysia just recently.

This is one of their university that is located in Jakarta.

Universitas Yarsi

Muhammadiyah (Arabic: محمدية‎, followers of Muhammad); also known as the Muhammadiyah Society (Indonesian: Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah) is a major Islamic non-governmental organization in Indonesia.[1] The organization was founded in 1912 by Ahmad Dahlan in the city of Yogyakarta as a reformist socioreligious movement, advocating ijtihad - individual interpretation of Qur'an and sunnah, as opposed to taqlid - the acceptance of the traditional interpretations propounded by the ulama.[2]

Since its establishment, Muhammadiyah has adopted a reformist platform mixing religious and secular education,[3] primarily as a way to promote the upward mobility of Muslims toward a 'modern' community and to purify Indonesian Islam of local syncretic practices.[3] It continues to support local culture and promote religious tolerance in Indonesia, while a few of its higher education institutions are attended mostly by non-Muslims, especially in East Nusa Tenggara and Papua provinces. The group also runs a large chain of charity hospitals,[1] and operated 128 universities as of the late 1990s.[4]

In 2008, Muhammadiyah was considered the second largest Islamic organization in Indonesia with 29 million members.[2] Although Muhammadiyah leaders and members are often actively involved in shaping the politics in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah is not a political party. It has devoted itself to social and educational activities.

Some English debate in University of Indonesia ( military related topics )

Best universities in Indonesia are state owned universities. It has low tuition compared to private owned universities and better in quality as it is subsidized by Government. National test is conducted across Indonesia and only few can pass the test. In here we also can get many scholarships given by universities, government, NGO, and private sectors ( businesses )

Category:Indonesian state universities
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Indonesia, state universities (Indonesian: Perguruan Tinggi Negeri, abbreviated PTN) are funded and managed by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kementerian Riset, Teknologi dan Pendidikan Tinggi or Kemenristekdikti). The SBMPTN systems allow graduating high school students to apply for these universities by a standardized examination held yearly.

The number is 72 (72 universities)

Public School

Public School ( elementary, junior high school, high school) in Indonesia is free and the books are also free. The facility is not as good as expensive private schools but the quality of the teaching are good.

Just as an example of SMA 8 Jakarta where majority of the students here usually will go to state universities

They are owned by central government but local government also contribute financially, Jakarta local government for instant give salary incentive to teachers. Teachers salary in Jakarta working in public school is similar like the salary of Specialist Medical Doctor working in public hospital.

Well I dont know, but not many. Usually expat in Jakarta is White (US/European/Australian) and Asian (Japanese/Korean). Nope, rarely see any Pakistani, mostly Malaysian study in Indonesian universities.

I live in South Jakarta and I rarely seen Pakistani, just see one of them selling praying mat in one Mall, he can speak Indonesian already. There is Pakistani restaurant in Radio Dalam, South Jakarta, strategic place, near Pondok Indah Mall.

In Central Jakarta like Pasar Baru market it is Indian who is prominent there, mostly selling textile products.

I see some Indonesian has mixed Pakistani bloods and they consider themselves more as Indonesian.

Here our 2019 Beauty contest has Pakistani-Indonesian mix as third winner

@faani83

Mostly we see Arab Indonesian in here, this is the most seen people with mixed background. Whether you go to schools, universities, or even in our neighborhood we will likely see them.

But Indonesian-Pakistani mixed is still present. Here two of the girls have 1/4 Pakistani blood

This video also shows Indonesian English skills, particularly among upper middle class people.
