WB officially announces Azerbaijan Power Distribution Modernization Project
According to the Bank, the total project budget is estimated at $400 million, of which it is ready to finance $300 million through the International Bank for Reconstruction & Development (IBRD).
"The borrower will be the government of Azerbaijan and the executive agency - JSC Asersvet (Azərişıq)," the WB reported.
At the same time the project approval date has not been endorsed.
"The project focuses on the transmission and distribution of electricity. Up to 70% of the budget will be spent in rural areas and 30% in cities," the Bank informed.
Earlier the Azerbaijani government declared plans to raise loans financing in several tranches. It planned to reconstruct fully the entire power network in selected pilot regions.
Until 31 July the Bank’s specialists conducted identification of this project in Azerbaijan that was the initial stage of its preparation. The Bank is inclined for fastened preparation in order to complete it no later than at the end of the current calendar year.

Baku-Sumgayit railway line next to open
Overhaul of passenger section of the railway line Baku-Khirdalan-Sumgayit have been completed, Nadir Azmammadov, the head of the press service for Azerbaijani Railways, told local press.
Azmammadov said construction of a bypass railway with the length of 1.65 km for the movement of trains in the direction of Sumgayit station without entering the main station of the city completed.
The whole 63 km of Baku-Khirdalan-Sumgayit railway line have been capitally renovated, he said. At the same time, accomplish works are underüay at the stations along the Baku-Sumgayit.
In addition, the demolition of the old administrative building of the passenger station in Sumgayit is ending. A new two-story building corresponding to modern standards will be built at the site.
High-speed double-decker Stadler trains will begin operating on the Baku-Sumgayit route from September 15.
Azerbaijani Railways began repair work on the railway Baku-Khirdalan-Sumgayit early this March.
As of now, the electric trains that run between Azerbaijan’s two biggest cities Baku and Sumgayit on the Baku-Balajari-Sumgayit route arrive at their destination in one hour 22 minutes. After the renovation, the time will be reduced to 40 minutes.
At present, Azerbaijan has three double-decker trains with two more trains to arrive by the end of the year.
The KISS double-decker electric railcar was produced at the Stadler Minsk factory by the Stadler Rail Group Company. The train has 396 seats, including 84 business class seats, and has a total capacity of 919 passengers.
A one-way ticket is expected to cost about 50-70 qepik ($0.47- $0.66) for the trip.
In the future, the trains will carry passengers on the 91 km long circular Baku-Sumgayit-Baku route, which is currently being renovated.
Ten trains are expected to operate on the circular route. The average speed on the new railway line will be 63 kilometers per hour. The rail line will have 23 stations and stops.
Azerbaijan Railways and Switzerland’s Stadler Rail Group signed a contract on the purchase of five KISS double-decker trains at the 14th International Transport, Transit, and Logistics Exhibition in Baku this May.
The contract is worth about 60-70 million euros, which is to be paid to Stadler Rail Group within 20 years with the help of revenues generated from passenger transportation.

The Azerbaijan Railways is working with engineering companies to build two new railway depots, Martin Vaujour, managing director for Russia and CIS at the French company Alstom Transport, told Trend Sept. 5.
He said one of the depots will be built in the capital Baku’s township of Bilajari, while the second one will be located in the city of Ganja.
“The project’s feasibility study is to be ready around September and October, and then in the near future construction will start at both sites at the same time,” he said.
Vaujour added that the said depots will allow operating and maintaining Stadler trains and Alstom locomotives and diesel locomotives.

the population has but has adjusted to the impact of falling oil prices had on currency , CBA did a great job dealing with currency during the collapse of oil prices.
I haven't noticed any major projects be delayed due to oil prices and still going at full speed , projects such as Technology Parks in major cities , the new Baku Port , overall upgrade of railway infrastructure and etc.
The government balanced its budget well and we'll have a deficit of about 500 - 700 mil which is not a lot for a country with reserves at 50+ bil.

Trilateral meeting on Trans-Caspian pipeline to be held in fall
Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Turkey are planning to discuss the prospects of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline construction this autumn.
The discussions will be held at a high level in Turkmenistan, a source close to the negotiations told Trend.
Earlier the Turkmen media outlets reported that the relevant issue has been recently discussed at the governmental meeting.
Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported that while discussing the preparation for the forthcoming trilateral meeting, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov stressed its importance for the further strengthening of the traditional relations of friendship and mutually beneficial partnership among the three countries and nations.
"Turkmen, Turkish and Azerbaijani people are united by the centuries-old historical and cultural community and fraternal relations,” Vatan newspaper quoted Berdymukhamedov as saying. “Today these relations are a solid foundation to intensify and expand the fruitful cooperation among our countries."
Berdymukhamedov instructed to properly organize the meeting, designed to give a new impetus to the trilateral cooperation that meets the interests of general well-being and prosperity.
The 300-kilometer Trans-Caspian Pipeline is widely regarded as the optimal option to deliver 30 billion cubic meters of Turkmen blue fuel under the Caspian through Azerbaijan to European consumers.
Energy-rich Turkmenistan – which ranks fourth in the world in terms of the volume of gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar, and produces about 70-80 billion cubic meters of gas a year – is keen on increasing and diversifying the supply of its huge volume natural gas to Europe.
Recently, as Azerbaijan together with its European allies commenced the construction of the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline, which would then connect to the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline and carry Azerbaijan's natural gas to Europe, Turkmenistan has expressed interest in the realization of the Trans-Caspian Pipeline.
The construction of the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline will greatly expand the diversification of the Turkmen natural gas supply routes, as well as create an additional guarantee for the reliable and stable export of Turkmen energy resources to international markets.
Azerbaijan is also interested in the construction of the Trans-Caspian Pipeline as it can provide huge benefits from the transportation the Turkmen gas via its territory.
The project is in the strategic interest of Europe at a time when the EU is trying to decrease its dependence on Russian gas.

SOCAR Fiber to lay 800-km cable along TANAP
SOCAR Fiber Company, which was established by SOCAR Turkey Enerji in May 2013, will lay 800-kilometer cable along the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline.
This was announced by Kenan Yavuz, the head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji and Board Member of Petkim Petrochemical Holding.
Yavuz told journalists that this will allow SOCAR Fiber to become one of the major players in the telecommunications market of Turkey in the future.
TANAP envisages the transportation of gas of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from the Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey. TANAP’s initial capacity is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest of the volume to Europe.
Turkey will receive gas in 2018, and after the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is constructed the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.
BP and the TANAP consortium signed March 13 a shareholder agreement, according to which, BP will become one of the shareholders of TANAP. The agreement is one of the main documents for BP’s ownership of a stake in the TANAP project.
Following the completion of a legal implementation procedure, TANAP’s shareholders list will be as follows: SOCAR – 58 percent, Botas – 30 percent and BP – 12 percent.
The heads of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia have laid the foundation of the TANAP pipeline in the Turkish Kars province on March 17, 2015.

Socar expanded hugely in the recent years, i think they replaced Gaddafis Tamoil which was wide spread in Switzerland prior to the war, now there is almost not a singe one while Socar is popping up everywhere.

M-Naf to build first industrial district of Azerbaijan
The contractor to build the first industrial district of Azerbaijan has been defined.
Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) reports that it signed a contract for construction work with the tender winner on 7 April.
"The contractor became M-Naf LLC," AIC said in a statement.
The tender procedure was completed on 1 April. On 6 April a contract was signed with M.D.M for preparation of the design and estimate documentation within the design works for Neftchali industrial district.
The industrial park will be constructed on 10 hectares. AIC will be its organizer and regulator.

In the next few years Azerbaijan Railways will be the most developed in the region. The agreement was signed in Baku in the presence of Gazprom Deputy Chairman of the Board Alexander Medvedev, Deputy President of Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR on Marketing and Investment Elshad Nasirov, Director General of Gazprom export Elena Burmistrova and Chairman of the Board of AzMeCo Nizami Piriyev.
"This is a medium-term agreement on purchase and sale of gas in a volume of up to 2 billion cubic meters a year. Natural gas supplies will provide a guaranteed load of 100 percent of capacity of the Garadagh methanol plant. Gas supplies to the end users in Azerbaijan are planned to start soon," Gazprom reported.
In July, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists that SOCAR has allowed Gazprom Company to supply gas to AzMeCo Company.
"We do not have a need to import gas, as we fulfill all our contractual obligations. The fact is that a methanol plant was constructed, but no long-term contract for the supply of gas was concluded with SOCAR, so we do not have resources for it. For this reason, when Gazprom addressed us, SOCAR did not oppose to the purchase of gas by AzMeCo from the Russian company. A contract on the supply of Russian gas to the plant via our pipelines was concluded," Abdullayev said.
Currently, Gazprom has a contract (with the possibility of extension) on purchasing Azerbaijani gas signed October 14, 2009. The contract between SOCAR and Russia’s Gazprom allows for suspending and resuming gas supplies at any time.
AzMeCo was founded in November 2007 to invest in petrochemical projects as an owner and operator. In addition to its portfolio of international hydrocarbon investments in the Caspian basin, AzMeCo created a master plan of investments in the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan.
