Driving a motorbike in Vietnam.

To the Vietnamese member on pdf. Does Vietnam recognises International Driving Permits or let me drive on my AU/NZ licence.

I went to get an IDP here but the lady behind the counter told me that Vietnam is not part of the group of countries that recognises IDP's and so if I try to drive there it will be illegal and insurance wont cover me and I might be fined by Vietnamese cops for driving without a license.

Can anyone from Vietnam answer this question?

You can drive in Vietnam with International Driving Permits. If you have not a International Driving Permit, you still can drive a motorbike under 50cc. This is my Simson BS51, it is under 50cc. This shot at Hagiang provice of Vietnam.

I don't understand your question. Vietnam is a unified nation, so the cops be same on everywhere of Vietnam, "very friendly" (except Hanoi and Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh city with 141 force). If you are a foreigner and you respect the law, the police never asked at all, so do not care about "friendly property" of police. Have many foreigners drive everywhere in Vietnam, everyday. Of course there are some places you should not go, there are a belt of border with China (line Hoang Lien Son), the region of CIA activity in the southwest border with Cambodia
