DRDO may field Indigenous 155-mm gun for the Indian Army by end of 2013

. .
i am happy that army is keen about this project...
as we know ,navy supports every project and pumps in money,so they are most successful and have homemade arms when compared to our army and navy..

.
155-mm gun Project will be a Public-Private joint venture between DRDO and Bharat Forge / Larsen & Toubro. ARDE one of the DRDO Laboratory has already taken up the work and is carrying out preliminary work of the project.:tup:

Bharat forge has certainly gone from strength to strength! I did an internship at that place, the work culture there is insane !

. . .
Yeah i think IA should go ahead with that M777 deal. Rest can be developed by ARDE. IA has around 2000 artillery and all of them are old. IA should have made this decision earlier. But now DRDO should take over the projects for all types of howitzer that IA needs like self propelled, towed, tracked, wheeled and ultra light.

IA is looking for the purchase of many howitzers...
1) Towed :
It involves about $1.8 billion for acquisition for 400 towed 155/52 artillery guns, to be followed by production of up to 1,180 in India.

2) Ultra light
$700 million for the ultra-light 155/39 howitzer competition, covering about 140 pieces.

3) Self propelled
About $800 million for about 100 155mm self-propelled tracked guns.
About $900 million for 180 self-propelled wheeled guns.

I hope DRDO fulfills all the requirement of IA.

.
Well making the artillery piece itself is easy. Fire detection radar, laser guided, and rocket assisted projectiles would also need to developed to be effective for the modern battlefield.

Also they should make it self propelled. Should be simple, just mount it on a suitable armored truck.

agreed.

it isnt easy to mount a gun on armoured vehicle. the tricky part is to have a reliable firce control system which gives an accurate fire even on move. however, given the success of arjun prog(however late it was) it wouldnt be that difficult now.

The underlined part is bizarre. Artillery guns (including SP guns) never fire on the move. The movement (either by the SP vehicle or Tow-Tractor) is used only to deploy/re-deploy the guns.

What happend to bhim are there aby planes to revive it back to life

.
^^^
I think now its turn of Bhim. Atleast for self-propelled track artillery bhim is there....I think IA should placed the order for Bhim, i think IA has already tested Bhim during the trials.

BHIM uses components from DENEL which is blacklisted..I dont it to restart soon..

Army is becoming a joke day by day......if DRDO doesnt deliver a contemporary system by 2013, then it will become a joke too.
