Indian army which is struggling to purchase 155-mm Guns for itself for the past 9 years might wait little longer and for an indigenously developed 155-mm towed gun.Many of the guns which were offered by foreign vendors are already blacklisted by Ministry of Defence due various ill-regulatories and allegations of corruption that includes some of the top companies like, Singapore Technologies Kinetics (STK); Germany’s Rheinmetall; Israel Military Industries (IMI); and another Israeli company, Soltam. Denel, a South African company, had been blacklisted earlier;

155-mm gun Project will be a Public-Private joint venture between DRDO and Bharat Forge / Larsen & Toubro. ARDE one of the DRDO Laboratory has already taken up the work and is carrying out preliminary work of the project.:tup::tup:

ARDE designed Arjun’s Tanks 120mm Riffle bore guns and even developed the 105mm Indian Field Gun (IFG), Indian army is likely to work with ARDE on this project and is keen on this project to avoid further delays in inducting 155mm guns.
:cool:
Indian army which has a requirement of more than 1400 of 155-mm Guns is now counting on ARDE to pull it out of this mess and deliver this guns for trails by 2013 at best, while ARDE with help from Private sector is confident to produce one by 2013 and give it for Army Trials.

India is quite lagging in the field of artillary. true bofors saved the day in kargil but no govt has gone ahead and signed a deal for artillery guns post bofors scandal.

wat we need is right combination of self propelled howitzers and atillery guns.

.
the best thing is they invited private sector too..........................................

.
Well making the artillery piece itself is easy. Fire detection radar, laser guided, and rocket assisted projectiles would also need to developed to be effective for the modern battlefield.

Also they should make it self propelled. Should be simple, just mount it on a suitable armored truck.

mobility is king

agreed.

it isnt easy to mount a gun on armoured vehicle. the tricky part is to have a reliable firce control system which gives an accurate fire even on move. however, given the success of arjun prog(however late it was) it wouldnt be that difficult now.

That is unnecessary. The picture I showed was a CAESAR and it certainly can't fire on the move. It has to deploy first but it can re situate much faster than standard towed artillery.

Should be a relatively easy conversion.

well i wasnt referring to CAESAR wen i made my comments. i was referring to various indian programms to make a self propelled howizter.

2 more fcuking years?!The army has not inducted a single artillery gun for over 20 years and we have to wait for DRDO to come up with a gun which will be given for trials at the END OF 2013!!At least the private sector will be involved(hopefully!).
