Don't strive for 'soft image' of Pakistan only to please the West, PM Imran tells nation

.
Unfortunately manyor most in Pakistan arw suffering from this inferiority complex. Its evident not only in what image we try to portray but also the way we dress, talk, eat, sleep, celebrate.
Women in our cities try to wear western clothes and remove dupatta to look modern and westernized and hence "upper class". We have shunned our culture just to look maadren (modern). From our bureaucrats to acedamics and businessmen, we try best to send kids to west for studies, it makes them look higher class and they think they are above others and its the only path to being developed. In our society ppl try to add mlre English and ads accent to look westernized and modern. Our universities are like inferiority complex hospitals and everyone wants to be mlre western. So sorry mr PM, the whole country is suffering from this disease. The few that dont suffer from it are labelled mullahs or ummah chummah guys and thought as backwards.

I will address the points you made but please can you elaborate on the quote. Many thanks.

I can quote your own words here:

Despite this across the entire world Meat Karai, Chapli Kebabs, Seek Kebabs, Ghosht Pilau is sold as "Indian". Frankly the name Pakistan is only used for -

  • terrorism
  • extremism
  • radicals
  • misogny
  • backwardnesss

To fix this all Pakistani's have to do their part and government must build up brand Pakistan.

Nice to see his supporters admitting to his munafiqat. Quite a fall from saqib and ameen

I guess a true Munafiq would be someone living elsewhere while lecturing others living in other part of the world
it's "sadiq" and ameen you jackass!🤦🏻‍♂️

I hope Allah keep us on the path which leads to him only.. we sud be pleasing Allah instead of west..
Instead of texas if we have society based on zakat our gov would collect alot more than its target.
People of Pakistan always wants to help they do even in these crises but we have make proper system for that so no weak sud left behind..
I am glad imran khan is leading us slowly on right direction... insha'Allah khair.

I had always wonder WTF is this soft image that people want to project, I glad that our PM is also puzzled by this stupid way of thinking.

It's a Neoliberal aka LibTurd way of saying we want to bleach our skins and serve you whites with our confused accents...

This may be a very popular thing to say for internal consumption, as also evidenced by the replies to this thread. However, I sincerely hope this is not going to influence or motivate actual policy.

It would be exceptionally foolish not to want to build soft image and soft power of Pakistan. Our poor image bars us from trade on better terms, bars us from accessing certain technologies vital for both defence and civilian industry, it gives us very little in the way of diplomatic or cultural influence abroad.

One thing I am certain about... A visionary Pakistani leadership can with some effort could do a lot to build a soft image. The basic ground work is easy, even something like a tourism campaign can double as soft image building. Pakistan’s blessed with a rich and diverse culture, the Brits, and the Koreans, manage to export their pop culture, it earns them lots of cash, and cultural leverage and precedence.

Another idea I’ve advocated for on here in the past is climate change activism. If a Malala Yousafzai can become famous and draw the world’s attention to bad conditions in Pakistan. Why can’t we have activists like Greta Thunberg arise in Pakistan? Sweden won’t be harmed much by climate change, but we’ll suffer dearly as our water sources dry up, flooding gets worse, and parts of the country become uninhabitable. There should be outrage our dear glaciers are disappearing!

I can easily imagine a Pakistani kid getting global and international recognition for kickstarting climate awareness campaigns. Not only would it help build a progressive image of Pakistan, it may come with investments and climate mitigation efforts focussed on our country. We didn’t spend the last 70 years continuing massively to global climate change, why should we suffer the worst of its effects, while the west gets to play holier than thou? This is without a shadow of a doubt the biggest crisis of our times. There are more examples to be given, this is just one.

Also, soft image can arguably be your first line of defence, since this is the theme of the forum, it merits mention. Finland is right next door to Russia, but it won’t be subjected to any hostilities above a threshold, not just because of NATO, but because of the way the world views those innovative Nordics, with their enlightened societies and pacifistic image. Even if this is a tall order for a nuclear armed Islamic Republic to fill, it’s an example that warrants reflection.

Trying to build an image without underlying substance is bound to be difficult at least, if not impossible.
