Don't strive for 'soft image' of Pakistan only to please the West, PM Imran tells nation

.
We should make dramas/films about how Mughal empire was established. How Islam came to be in sub continent. 1857 War of Independance. Quaid e Azam. Freedom Struggle. Atrocities faced by Punjabi muslims coming over and the trains, how venerable Baloch regiment, and in it Pathans, Sindhis, Balochistan and Potohari brave lions gave their lives to protect those trains.. Porblems/hardships faced by Karachiwala brothers etc.

How we sent lashkars into Kashmir to free our people. How the PNS Ghazi sank Indian ships.

A series on Netflix about 1971 and portray it as an Indian conspiracy but also show how West Pakistan made mistakes and sidelined those poor people who were already broken by Churchill's man made famine.

How we fought Kargill.

I say make more movies and tv show like Maalik. And also expose Zardari, Nawaz, Altaf, Fazlur Rehman, Achakzai, Pashteen, Hussain Haqqani etc etc

Especially one dedicated movie/series that educates people on the importance of the Pakistan state Flag. It should be moving enough that every Pakistani building has Pakistani flag like they do in Turkey.

Finally I will say again what I've said many many times. Have an Al Jazeera like channel where we can subtly broadcast our national ideas to the world.

Prime Minister Imran Khan says Pakistanis shouldn't be concerned about creating a "soft image" of their country only to win approval from the West, calling such a perception an "inferiority complex".

Addressing the launching ceremony of a documentary drama titled "Paani Ke Pankh" in Islamabad on Thursday, the premier said people should instead strive for being seen as an independent nation which has confidence in itself and does not have to rely on anyone for aid.

"I repeatedly hear that we need to present a soft image of Pakistan. What does a soft image mean? Why do we say this and if this soft image is established will the world consider us very good?

Analyse: Why soft power is pivotal

"We shouldn't fall into this kind of misunderstanding; this is an inferiority complex. When a nation loses its confidence it tries to please people," the prime minister emphasised.

He said people shouldn't plan their actions based on what Western countries would approve, citing the example of the vision of "enlightened moderation" introduced by former military ruler retired Gen Pervez Musharraf.

"We heard the term 'enlightened moderation' for the first time in our lives. Nobody knows what it means. Most people understood it that the more we resemble people in the West the more we will appear moderate. So people started speaking English and wearing Western clothes, and [thought] they had become moderate.

"Is this moderation? Please understand this is inferiority complex."

Prime Minister Imran said Pakistanis only had to promote one image: that of an independent nation standing on its feet which believes in itself, doesn't rely on anyone and doesn't take loans from or beg anyone.

"Only then does the world respect you," he said, stressing that a nation that was self-reliant and thought big held the true honour.

"So the nation shouldn't think we go around pleasing the world, presenting a soft image."

The prime minister reiterated that Pakistan had made a "mistake" by entering the US 'War on Terror'.

"We entered someone else's war which wasn't ours, we should've never joined it," he said, adding that Pakistan had first taken part in "glorifying jihad" in the 1980s and making the Mujahideen "heroes", and later pursued them as "terrorists" on instructions of the US after 9/11.

"So the country inevitably had to pay a heavy price for it."

In this context, the premier said, people "shouldn't think we need to present a soft image of ourselves because they (the West) started calling us 'terrorists'."

"You can never enter someone else's war, take benefits from them and not suffer for it," he stressed.

He said the potential in Pakistan was unmatched by any other country and the nation tended to "undersell" itself.

"Until our thinking remains that we can't do anything until someone from the outside gives us loans due to our soft image, we can't move forward."

Prime Minister Imran promised his government's "complete support" for the film industry to produce original documentaries and films.

He said there was a time when Pakistan Television's (PTV) dramas were watched across the border in India, adding that the once-thriving film industry had fallen behind because it "started copying cheap Indian films".

Meanwhile in Islamabad

Great to hear the film industry will be supported, and reflect our own culture. Waris was a particularly popular drama, from what I’ve heard from my elders, in Pakistan and across the border in India.
I hope fawad chaudry gets his netfix fixed
PTV has huge content that can be digitized

Absolutely!
We need a TV series or dramatizations on the following:

1. The history of those people from
East Punjab, and Haryana in India
most of whom were ethnically
cleansed out, and some who
survived the holocaust to make it
to Pakistan. How these peoples
coped and later flourished.

2. The history of the people's from
from pre-partition Eastern India
who suffered the most horrific
holocaust in 1946 simply
because they supported the
cause of Pakistan. A holocaust
so horrific that the
names of the villages of
Telhara, and Nagarnausa ,
were were mentioned in the
same breath as Lidice and Babi
Yar. What eventually
happened to these people's
and how they suffered once
again for the cause of
Pakistan to be displaced
and. impoverished once
again.
( Note : An Indian TV series Buniyad . and TV film Tamas has already been made giving a one sided narrative).

How we sent lashkars into Kashmir to free our people.
We must show the massacres in Jammu by the Dogra troops of the Maharaja of Kashmir.

A series on Netflix about 1971 and portray it as an Indian conspiracy but also show how West Pakistan made mistakes and sidelined those poor people who were already broken by Churchill's man made famine.
The whole Civil War, showing the
progress from start to finish.
Usama Ghazi made a stellar digital series "'Dekho Suno Jano" on a shoestring budget,

I say make more movies and tv show like Maalik. And also expose Zardari, Nawaz, Altaf, Fazlur Rehman, Achakzai, Pashteen, Hussain Haqqani etc etc

Recent political events can be taken up later after 25 years when more hind sight is available, Usama Ghazi follows this rule.

Especially one dedicated movie/series that educates people on the importance of the Pakistan state Flag. It should be moving enough that every Pakistani building has Pakistani flag like they do in Turkey.
A government directive to schools recommending the salute to the national flag and playing or singing the national anthem before beginning the day.

Finally I will say again what I've said many many times. Have an Al Jazeera like channel where we can subtly broadcast our national ideas to the world.

PTV and Radio Pakistan did a stellar job throughout the 1950s, 1960s and up to the mid 1980s with English language news, English talk shows.

Indus TV was a good start? What happened?
Podcasts is another medium which ironically is being used by VoA, DW, and Nippon TV in Urdu for Pakistan., Even All India Radio has a digital Urdu streaming edition.

Tourism=$$$

Absolutely!
Promoting our tourism for the world is a great step. In natural mountain beauty we rival Switzerland and in the coast line we rival Morocco.

For real tourism money we would have to revert our food and drinks , apparel and socializing laws to what they were from 1950- 1975. There is a reason why Dubai attracts tourism to a treeless flat arid sandy waste (temperature 45 C ) , with a concrete jungle coastline. They don't need a Neelum Valley.

Promoting tourism for most countries "visa free", makes sense..with exceptions.

Ironically, the country that is likely to bring us the most tourist traffic with 100's of millions of dollars in spending power, and that is 100% culturally and linguistically compatible, is our "friendly neighbor next door" which has officially declared us the enemy.
So no visa free entry here.

There is another densely populated ( 2400 per sq. km) country on our visa free list, ( not culturally and linguistically compatible) , whose people are not so much interested in tourism in Pakistan but finding a place to settle.

Hear this Munafiq

Spends his whole life in West wearing Western clothes bedding Western girls and has all his kids legitimate and illegitimate living in West, at the old age is clean shave and doesn't even let stubble grow on his face.

Has his ministers all imported from West.

Hear this Munafiq

What's even funny is his supporters living in West enjoying western luxuries are eating his munafiqat and going on about self something something  :astagh:

Unfortunately the nature of Pakistani society, Pakistan politics and Imran Khan's past I find he often goes overboard with this complex about not kowtowing to the West. That is not the issue. The issue is simple.

We have to look at this as simply a brand problem. Not religion. Not politics. Simple brand issue. We all would agree Pakistan has a terrible brand problem. You say 'Pakistan' in any country in the West, East, South the reaction will not be positive. Even in countries like China.

So how do you address this? Simple. Just like Coco Cola, Toyota, Habib Bank, Jazz mobile, Emirates Airline or UAE does. Focus and create a positive association with the name "Pakistan". People should think of good food, fabulous mountains, culture, Indus history, civilization, hospitality. It should garner a positive but unique brand image of Pakistan.
yeah but that doesn't we should suck their dicks like Saudi, Jordan, e.t.c

If addressing this brand image problem is as simple as you put it, why has effective implementation not been possible throughout Pakistan's history, right up to, and including, the present setup? All the warm fuzzies you mention are outweighed by other, harsher, realities, perhaps? How does one begin to neutralize their adverse effects?

Absolutely

And this goes for our neighbors too Arabs, Iranian, afghanis (not India obviously we couldn't give a toss about them)

But our whole problem is that portions of our population give more loyalty to others from PTM like scum giving loyalty to Afghanistan, to hazaras requiring Iranian Mullahs, to ethnocentric nonsense

We need to put Pakistan first
shia oppertunists in PTI and other political parties used Hazaras for personal political goals. made political mileage at the expense of a tragedy. stirred controversy and then requested iranian mullah fatwa after hazara massacre.

hazara didnt involve iran or demand money. they only wanted consolation from head of govt. they have never been part of any political disturbance.

dont accept and spread BS.

Nice to see his supporters admitting to his munafiqat. Quite a fall from saqib and ameen
You sound like a jealous munafiq.

I guess a true Munafiq would be someone living elsewhere while lecturing others living in other part of the world

Sir I want to keep my post apolitical, but when last PM visited after such incident they were forced to remove Balochistan government. During PLMN government PM never visited even after repeated incidents.

Hazaras are innocent people but there are elements in shia community in our country which uses such events for political and religious purposes. Same for other communities. Before you misunderstand my post I repeat 'Innocent hazaras have nothing to do with it, the families were never the ones who brought martyrs bodies on street but were coerced to do so, even when all their demands were met'.

And as far as political mileage goes, it was PTI at the receiving end and opposition vultures cashed it. I still remember that night when PPP goons with flags were roaming around the city and setting camp at various points with loud speakers to incite sectarianism.
