what are the R & D and nuke sub cost ??

Very difficult to estimate the cost of such R&D project. Its not just the nuclear subs alone, you have to built infrastructure, the associated facilities, labs, production facilities, upgrading of dockyard, human resource, moke up facilities, training of technical staff, silmulator etc. etc. etc.

the cost of arihant project is around 2.9 billion USD... so just think ...can pakistan afford this ? I don't think so......

Yes Pakistan need to have some Nuclear ed Powered Submarine as well as needs to increase its Frigates and Missile Boats in huge Numbers and also develop Naval version of Cruise Missiles and other latest Missiles

Programs are already underway:

- Talks in progress for larger frigrates wth chinese
- procurement of new subs.
- Project for fast attack missile boats
- project for nuclear subs.
- Naval version babur cruise missile in development

As i said earlier, its not a issue of affordability or strategic value. Above all reasons, for PN now its a matter of prestige. Unlike PN, both PA and PAF have strategic delivery systems.

Now India has a nuclear sub, with 5 more to come and an agreement for nuclear subs lease for IN is already in final stags so by hook or by crook PN is desperately looking for a nuclear sub and they will do it any cost.

That's because India's SSBN technology is so immature.

For China, the Type 094 SSBN won't cost more than 800 million USD per unit.

i have gone through the thread there is no official confirmation. The subs you are talking about are itself in testing phase for china. When do you will get the delivery is a big question mark. do read the comment of Mastan khan regarding the complexities attached with subs.

Purpose is quite clear and obvious, To safe guard the Pakistani coast line. Subs has always been the first love of PN. PN never had state of the art destroyers or frigrates but PN always opted for best subs available to them since late 1960s.

Nuclear subs is the next darling PN is looking to marry. Similar to the indian doctrine of TRIAD nuclear forces, PN is also actively working to obtain Naval strategic delivery system, in the form of naval vion of cruise missiles, conventional subs capable of carrying firing strategic weapons and nuclear subs.

and can't you do that with conventional subs????
