Do Indian men lack respect for women?

.
Point is simple people. This entire fixation with virginity is the biggest sham that has been foisted on our civilization by alien faiths.

You think Indian men and women of yore were waiting till 25 years of age for the marital bed to get their first taste of sex?

Solve this absurd cultural dichotomy and you'll solve the rapes.

.
the plain truth is women have better rights and life in west... and rape statistics should be taken with pinch of salt..
as in west, people feel confident to report rape... in India... most are afraid.

Your plain truth is a bit wrong.... you will see even if 46% of rapes are reported the results are rather sad....

There can be propaganda part but unfortunately there is great truth in crimes against women in every society including Indian one.

If you think its a propaganda then go and refute it

India a traveller's heaven, a woman's hell: American student

WASHINGTON: Back from a study trip to India last year, a Chicago university student recalls it as a visit full of adventures and beauty but also relentless sexual harassment, groping and worse.

In a powerful account posted on CNN iReport under the username RoseChasm, Michaela Cross says upon her return, she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and is now on a mental leave of absence from the school after a public breakdown in the spring.

Her story "India: The Story You Never Wanted to Hear" has struck a chord around the world, racking up more than 800,000 page views as of Wednesday morning, CNN reported.

Cross, a fair-skinned, red-haired South Asian studies major, who left India a few days before the deadly gang rape of a 23-year-old woman in New Delhi, said that helped others understand what she and her classmates went through.

On her return, Cross struggled to find a way to talk about a cultural experience that was both beautiful and traumatizing, CNN cited her as saying in her essay.

She writes: "Do I tell them about our first night in the city of Pune, when we danced in the Ganesha festival, and leave it at that? Or do I go on and tell them how the festival actually stopped when the American women started dancing, so that we looked around to see a circle of men filming our every move?

"Do I tell them about bargaining at the bazaar for beautiful saris costing a few dollars a piece, and not mention the men who stood watching us, who would push by us, clawing at our breasts and groins?

"When people compliment me on my Indian sandals, do I talk about the man who stalked me for 45 minutes after I purchased them, until I yelled in his face in a busy crowd?"

"How it feels to be a woman in India"

Later, she writes: "For three months I lived this way, in a travellers' heaven and a woman's hell. I was stalked, groped, masturbated at; and yet I had adventures beyond my imagination. I hoped that my nightmare would end at the tarmac, but that was just the beginning."

A university spokesman confirmed to CNN that Cross is a student at the school, but would not comment on her mental leave. He said the school is committed to students's safety at home and abroad.

The news channel quoted Cross as saying she didn't say anything to the professors on the trip until things reached "a boiling point" - what she called two rape attempts in 48 hours.

India a traveller's heaven, a woman's hell: American student - The Times of India

I am not portraying India to be a paradise on earth safe for everyone, but the idea is there are many places unsafe for women.

But the west and christians brought about so many changes in lifestyle, one of the primary things being people getting married at a much later age due to whatever reasons.

But do they realise the impact of that, please dont think i am saying Indian men are doodh ka dhula etc but culture is different here unlike the west.

So,she has to learn that first instead of behaving like an idiot.

And secondly, asian native men think of white women as loose chicks.

This need not be true but in many cases a person's individual sense of morality varies.

White people have to think of the image that is portrayed by themselves across the globe before coming here to complain about this and that.

Why are Pakistanis and the Hans on PDF so concerned about Indian women? Every other thread has something to do with them! :frown:

Why don't they look after the rights of women in Pakistan instead of wasting their time bothering about Indian women? :azn:

@Star Wars ..explain the infographic ..
if 46 % gets reported in USA.. it will be far less in India.

am not commenting on what she is saying.

I believe terming weird and unnatural changes in lifestyle and sell these as progress is very unfortunate.

I dont think rape is necessarily an effect of raging hormones.. its more to do with (effect of) lawlessness and disparity between power of victim and rapist.

Please note that India and China are both ancient civilizations with rich sexual histories and open attitudes towards sex. Our respective populations are testament to the fact that we like sex and get a lot of it. Probably our unofficial national sports.

But China never had first Islamic and then Victorian sexual mores thrust on to them. With the fetish for the untouched hymen. We did. So while Chinese girls probably put out more and hence you hear of fewer rapes in China, such is the reverse in India.

Maybe the Hans here could confirm?

You are correct. Notwithstanding the many achievements of women(mainly urban) and the freedom that some enjoy, India's treatment of women is abysmal. Please understand that all of India is not yet in the 21st century, regardless of what clothes they wear. There is a clash of civilisation & values that has been running within India and certain mindsets simply don't change because they have changed their Dhotis to jeans. Poor policing & an overburdened judiciary only adds to the mix. It will change but change will always bring out a lot of churn before it settles. In Europe, people went through many different centuries before arriving in the 21st. Many Indians have been forced into the 21st century from the 13-17th century. Even those who were in the 19th century find the change of 2 centuries difficult to handle. Every new Indian generation has (depending on where they started) have to jump atleast a couple of generations to try & catch up to the 21st century. An iphone doesn't get you there all by itself. If there is a generation(in India multiple) gap between any two generations, try & imagine that same gap within one generation......

Its around 35-40% , from what i heard from local enws channels, that is from the top of my head, but for all the searching i cant find the number of reported rapes.....

Either way..... The number of actual rapes cannot in anyway go more than 10 times , even then we would be below western nations like U.K and U.S

Well Sir I don't buy the 21st century excuse because many western societies do have same attitude though they claim they are into 21st century .

BUT yes once again I will repeat and agree with you that any sudden change is short lived. (reference to pushing Indians and anyone into 21st century).

Do not disagree & I make no excuses. Just pointing out that even in the west, attitudes have taken this long to change and you still see remnants of the old attitude; just imagine the predicament here.
