He was speaking to reporters after inspecting roads in Moghbazar on Thursday.
“Today we’ve finalised the alignment and the designs of 16 stations for the Metrorail. The physical work will begin from early 2015,” he said.
Additional project director Mahbubul Alam told bdnews24.com the places though which the electric train would pass turn was called ‘alignment’.
“The 16 stations will be built on the same design but their sizes may be different,” he said.
The cabinet approved a law related to land acquisition for the Metrorail on principle on April 28.
ECNEC approved the project in 2012.
The route will start from Uttara Third Phase and go to Pallabi; from there through Rokeya Sarani (west) to Khamarbari and Farmgate; then past Hotel Sonargaon and Shahbagh to turn at TSC and head to Bangladesh Bank past Doel Chattar and Topkhana Road.
The 16 Metrorail stations will be Uttara (North), Uttara (Centre), Uttara (South), Pallabi, IMT, Mirpur 10, Kazipara, Taltala, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Sonargaon, National Museum, Doel Chattar, National Stadium and Bangladesh Bank.
