Developments and Turkish operations in Libya

This isnt about bases, there is no way in hell the US will allow Russia to have more of a presence in the Mediterranean. The entire strategy of the cold war was to deny them access outside of the black sea, now they have built up a presence in Syria, and are trying to insert of a presence in Libya. couple that with defense agreements with Algeria and their relations with cyprus. The Russian presence, definitely needs to be kept in check.

Russia doesn’t bother us in Libya nor in Syria. Russia is very limited country especially its naval component. And they won’t get to USSR level for many generations to come.
In fact, Russians already have doubts about Syria. Especially since Iran is not capable supporting Damascus financially
If look at the MENA map Russia has only one ally-Bashar Assad:lol:

no need for crudeness, Im well aware of the base in syria, Im suggesting there has been a buildup there, like there wasn't since the end of the cold war. Im not aware of any russian facility in egypt.

The US doesn't support haftar, atleast the state department doesn't. Trump has been lobbied by the Emiratis through backchannels, but this isnt a major factor in policy.

After Camp David treaty Russia lost Egypt.
With collapse of USSR they lost Syria as well until 2015. In 80s and 90s they rarely used Tartus and GRU listening post in Al-Harra mountain was abandoned as well

this is a horrible reading of the situation, the US most definitely has a problem with what the russians are attempting to do with Iran.

They attempting to stay afloat with loss of revenue and collapse of oil prices.
We took USSR very seriously. But Putin’s Russia is not a serious opponent. It’s a joke.

That is the thing with the US,the Pentagon, the CIA and the president can all support different sides.
So,whats the policy, which one to ask?

The state Department, usually they are synonymous and in congruence, but right now we have a Game of Thrones situation, with Joffrey Baratheon(Trump) and Tywin Lannister(State Department), where Joffrey may be "king" but Twyin is the one really running things, sometimes, Trump makes impulsive decisions(like joffrey cutting off ned stark's head), but overall, listen to what the state department spokesperson or Pompeo is saying.

The state Department isnt run by one person, why am I having to explain this to you? its has a collective decision making mechanism, that involves diplomates, and career bureaucratic officials, which make decision based of the input of a multitude of factors. Thats how the american foreign policy apparatus has always worked.

Russian presence in Libya is through soft power over Egypt, Algeria. Both Egypt and Algeria are heavy Russian military hardware buyers. Tunisia is the only north African country hostile to Russia owing to its Islamic MB government which backs Muslim independence in Russia.
