Since 2011 a new method of calculating HDI has emerged, which might actually reduce previous HDI figures. I think its to adjust for inequality.

So data from before 2011 is irrelevant. Although I remember reading,

Delhi - 0.880
Mumbai - 0.90

Beijing - 0.9
Shanghai - 0.95

something along those lines, before 2011.

Not sure where this is, but it does look incredible and shinny

From my own travelling experience, my personal ranking will be (1) Shenzhen (2) Shanghai (3) Guangzhou (4) Bangkok (5) St Denis, Reunion Island (6) Kuala Lumpur (7) Paris (8) Hong Kong (9) Singapore (10) Dubai. Ranking based on hotel quality, service and invention, shopping availability, air quality, entertainment, karaoke, sport activities, restaurant, food, attraction like shows, nuru massage availability and above all, beautiful doll like girls and related services. I just can't believe that there are so much beautiful girls in Shenzhen and Shanghai. I had spent such a memorable and unbelievable night particularly in Shanghai.

In case of Mumbai it would be a pain and would cost a lot for it to be developed in a world class city. Main reason being it is too congested, and there has been sever lack of planing while developing the city. However, I think Navi Mumbai can be transformed into a world class city if proper steps are taken to prevent the inflow of people take move in make shanty towns/slums.

As for Delhi it can still be saved it is not a congested and can be expanded unlike Mumbai. So it all comes down to planning if proper steps are taken now maybe in a decade or two we could see Delhi or Indian other cities as world class.

I agree with you 100%. Shenzhen is indeed a very modern city. The infrastructure is better than in Shanghai. The condominiums are a little similar like the luxurios condominiums in Kuala Lumpur. Hua Shen Bei, the electronic market where you can find the best restaurants is amazing and Dongmen for garment shopping. Windows of the world with the giant open theatre next to the Eiffel Tower, the rafting, the shows at Chinese folk Village, Diwang Building, Venice Shenzhen, the V Bar and Nightclub, the Municipal City Council of Shenzhen, Dameisha Beach, Dameisha Wishing Tower, Dameisha mountain with telepheric and attraction. Shenzhen is the best followed by romantic and sexy Shanghai. They are the paradise cities. I felt so at ease during my one month stay in July 2012. I will never forget and these cities will be in my heart forever. I will never forget all these Chinese people I met particularly the staff at Dameisha and these two beautiful creatures I met in Shanghai, Xin Tian Di. Thank you China for rendering my stay so memorable and unbelievable. China, my love country, I will give my life for you, China, my beloved and adopted motherland.

" I share this aspiration with the chief minister [Sushilkumar Shinde] and senior Congress leaders to transform Mumbai in the next five years in such a manner that people would forget about Shanghai and Mumbai will become a talking point,"

-- India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday, October 6, 2004

Make Mumbai No 1: PM

Friends, to shoot out an aspiration of any wildness is easy and simple, whereas to realize it is difficult, as it relies on more than just the size of the mouth. In fact, the probability of success in making it may well inversely proportional to the size of the mouth. :agree:

a sea of lights...not bad. What is the most favorite dish there?

There has been a lot of improvements since I visited Delhi and Mumbai in 2006 and things are improving very rapidly there; everything needs time and both cities are too much populated people lacks to obey social norms they spit, they pee everywhere, they throw trash in open etc..

Without education there will be no improvement....

You can superficially make Mumbai and Delhi as clean as possible, but if the mentality of being callous towards state property does not change, these cities will always lag behind international standard...

One thing Ive noticed about Indians and Mumbaikaars in general is, we tend to keep our house clean, but we will trash the **** out of the street because there is a dissolution of responsibility there....the attitude is, "someone else will clean it up"

For once, Im in favor of dictatorship in Mumbai...almost like a Khairnar type entity, but more educated and forward thinking that can stand up to pressure and clean up the city and whack those that disobey the laws and make the city a mess...

what makes a city great is not just its lights and roads but its public infrastructure such as airports, subways and buses and especially things like education, research/development capabilities, financial capabilities, etc.

in all of these areas, Shenzhen is FAR behind Beijing and Shanghai. There's just no comparison. In fact, Shenzhen is behind even Wuhan, Chengdu and Hefei in terms of education and RD.

Hefei has a Synchrotron Radiation Lab costing billions and one of the very few in the entire world. Hefei has the top 4 national university USTC, what does Shenzhen have? Shenzhen has a few low tier private universities not doing much research but costing alot of money, hmm. Hefei is in one of the poorest provinces too, you can't say that its because of money. Its attitude.

Shenzhen is like Dubai. Dubai is a great place to go play. It also looks really nice. Does anyone really think that serious innovation is going on in Dubai?

^^^You misunderstand what I mean.i use the word "modern" instead of greatest or super.Everyone knows that Shenzhen is not the most perfect in every field, but it is more modern than other our cities.

Delhi and Mumbai first need freedom from sewage and drainage problems during rains. Then we can talk :coffee:
Who can believe this is mumbai, to me this is worse than some city in African country Mali.

That's true in terms of everything.

develop a film industry as potent as Bollywood for Shanghai or a Media as vocal as that of Delhi in Beijing.the communist citadels of your cities are merely propaganda.you should rather learn from Indian cities on how to develop a character. You can clean up the slums by stopping immigrants from villages into cities like China has done or you can construct skyscrapers within a few years if you have money but it is hard develop the feel of a cosmopolitanism bustling metropolis especially out of monotonous monstrosity that you guys have brought yourselves into. I would say that Chinese cities are huge shopping malls with dirty dark basements and shiny shops selling products products products and products and a few chandeliers and fountains here and there.
