Del-Varanasi bullet train may cover 782km in 3 hrs

Before Karnataka elections their will be Bangalore route HSR announcement ,just political priority.

Eventually every major business hub will be connected.

It is a bit twisted headline, probably because Varanasi is Modi's constituency, otherwise it is a Delhi-Kolkata HSR line with Varanasi as a one of the stations among many other big cities on its route.

And I think there is also a plan for Delhi-Chennai HSR line.

I do not see how connecting with Varanasi with HSR even makes sense. I can understand Delhi Kolkata or Delhi Agra or Delhi- Lucknow.
But Varnasi? Its a temple town for god's sake.

The most feasible route IMO will be

Delhi- Agra- Kanpur- Allahabad- Varanasi

But I agree I don't see how viable is such expensive train service on this route- However things could change very quickly If there's an economic boom in UP for 10 years straight-

Also Varanasi here means people of Eastern Bihar would too prefer this service- those who can pay-

It depends upon the people's ability to pay. If one is advocating Chennai, Bang, Hyd, Mumbai, or Delhi is one and simple reason. It has a lot of industries and techies. UP has no city other than Noida (which is actually Delhi) which is industrialised to the extent of Noida.
Building HSR in a country like India, we have to be careful about returns on investment. Simply put, its not viable. Varnasi is not a industrial city nor a city of richness.

However I am thinking its just for political posture. Its not going to get implemented.

It depends upon the people's ability to pay. If one is advocating Chennai, Bang, Hyd, Mumbai, or Delhi is one and simple reason. It has a lot of industries and techies. UP has no city other than Noida (which is actually Delhi) which is industrialised to the extent of Noida.
Building HSR in a country like India, we have to be careful about returns on investment. Simply put, its not viable. Varnasi is not a industrial city nor a city of richness.

However I am thinking its just for political posture. Its not going to get implemented.

I think HSR lines will be successful for short routes. For Ex a Chennai- Kolkotta line is 6000 rupees. Who will travel in it? They will book a flight instead. Most of the population get down btw locations in Chennai- and Kolkata and businessmans will prefer to travel in flight.

If it was me, I will advocate only short route HSR's in the country for now. Only long route HSR I will support is Delhi- Mumbai through Jaipur and Ahmedabad. Depending on the successess we can enlarge the networks.

I don't think aviation alone can take all the burden of traffic flow- in between Indian cities- Other than that HSR may also provide better connectivity to tier 2 cities than aviation-

Rough estimates predict 50% of Indian population living in cities by 2020 and keeping in mind current migration rates- It seem highly likely and may even Jump above predictions-

Also this Delhi Varanasi route is a section of Delhi-Kolkata route- and will have Lukhnow so Allahabad would be missed most probably-

If HSR rates could be affordable- and say someone working in Delhi is able to spend his/her weekends at their home in rural Eastern UP village should be the goal ideally- This will help in distributing economy more evenly- and aviation alone cannot take this burden of transporting as many people alone- So eventually Delhi-Kolkata, Kolkata-Chennai, and Kolkata-Mumbai will all be feasible along with Delhi-Mumbai, The only thing which is barring or hampering prospects of Mumbai-Bangalore-Chennai connected with Hyderabad is Geography and safety issues- Which means more airports and flight services for this section which also covers tier-2 cities extensively- Similarly connecting NE with HSR would a big challenge in future so the best way is to promote aviation and semi-high speed railway connectivity- people are resourceful so say a route like Kolkata-Chennai may be used by NE people in a major way- including those who work in Bangalore-

Delhi To Kolkata In 5 Hours? The Spanish TALGO Bullet Train Might Make This A Reality!

Soon the travel time between Delhi and Kolkata could be cut down to as less as five hours. It is part of the Delhi - Kolkata route going via lucknow. And for Delhi - Agra we have a semi HSR

I do not see how connecting with Varanasi with HSR even makes sense. I can understand Delhi Kolkata or Delhi Agra or Delhi- Lucknow.
But Varnasi? Its a temple town for god's sake

Delhi - Varanasi route passes through Lucknow and shall onwards connect to Calcutta.
