Darul Ulum issues fatwa against running beauty parlours


Muzaffarnagar: Islamic seminary Darul Ulum Deoband has issued a fatwa against beauty parlours saying running such a place is against the Shariat Law.
The fatwa was issued in response to a question posed before the Darul Uloom asking whether the profession of running beauty parlours by Muslim women is justifiedby the law according to the Shariat.
The dictat said Muslim women are not permitted to practice this profession under Shariat. "Women are not allowed to run beauty parlours as it is against the norms of parda," Mufti Arif of Darul Ulum Deoband said.

and as a logical extension of this, it is not allowed for women to do make up etc....

BTW, why even ask this question about Women alone?

Should men's salons also not become illegal if men and women are to be treated equally?

So it is not ok for a woman to go to a beauty parlour but it is ok when the man goes to the salon?

Notice how the newswriters change the word fatwaa to diktat (which they misspel dictat!). A fatwaa is a muftii's personal opinion. Here's what a diktat is:

This has nothing to do with Parda. A girl may want to look good to her husband, how is that not in line behaviour ?

I believe this decree is a little strange . at least I don't know of any law in Islam for women to show their body to other women .and also I don't know about sunni texts but in shia books its recommended for women to be clean and have cosmetics for their husbands .

but before we judge this decree I think it's better to see what was the exact question when he made this answer to it ,to be honest I don't trust reporters to show all the facts

The details of the Fatwa are not given in the news report. Partial news does no good...
Women are encouraged to look good and attractive for their Husbands in Shariah....unlike the norms these days where women look good and attractive to strangers and outside the house, but the poor husband gets her in the worst.....Smells nice outside. Stinks at home. Smiles outside...Bulldog at home.

Exactly agha. A question is often very specific, often based around one case/example. And the answer applies there, and still may be right or wrong, and still may or may not be followed by the person whose question elicited it.

I have to respect the Deoband for the empathy and sentimental feelings that they have shown for the fellow Hindus by passing a fatwa for Cow Slaughter.
At the same time, when the above is justifed as a show of solitude for the HINDUS, I am not able to understand the new fatwa that says women can not run parlor, any way as a community its their right to pass what ever they want and as a democracy its the muslims living India have the right to accept/ not accept it.
