As I have posted before, replacing main assault rifle is a very expensive exercise and once selected, you are stuck with it for the next 30 to 40 years.
Even at the licence produced cost of $1,000/- per unit, 500 K rifles cost $500-milliion! Therefore the new rifle must show a significant improvement over G3 & type 56 else its waste of effort and money.
Most important factors being that the rifle should be idiot proof (reliable with very little maintenance and easy to train on), have a decent range and accuracy, cheap to build and durable enough to survive 15 to 20 years of tough operational life.
We don’t need to have the best of the best. Instead we need the maximum bang for our buck. Pak Army is therefore justified in taking a long time before the final decision
