Crazy SU-30MKI Manoeuvers!

.
I 100% agree with you gone are the days of dog fighting.

US thought the same in Vietnam war, and was later forced to use gun pods on F-4s.

Keep in mind, the ECMs are also evolving along with the AAM seekers. In an head on aerial fight, you miss a shot, and you enter the WVR zone.

One Simply does not........

Neglect Dogfight in aerial warfare.

Nonsense. You are talking exactly like the USAF strategists of the pre Vietnam era. However, reality in this war has shown the opposite.

Why do you think are fighter pilots taught to dogfight? Why are close range AA missiles still in use? Why has every fighter aircraft cannons? Why do even 5gen fighters like the F22 have supermaneuverability?
The cobra might seem to impractical but definitely showcases the SU 30 MKIs supermaneuverability.

I have a lot of respect toward this fighter aircraft, i remember those days when i was in pune it was a daily routine i use to see this aircraft , maneuvering over skies of hinjewadi doing all kind of crazy stunts.

Awesome video .......:yahoo:

Was this performed on the 75th anniversary of IAF ??

MKI has a big 75 marked on the top.

I am no expert but for study case lets take SU 30 MKI vs an F-16 block 52 N011M has a 400 km range and AN/APG-68 [not 100% sure if PAK F 16 -52's has this radar] has 296 KM range. Going by this the MKI which has higher ranger will lock on to F 16 sooner and since it has higher number of hard points chances are that it is going to shoot more missiles and likely to score a kill. This is just a layman's comparison. But still I believe you get the drift. And please are you guys comparing modern AA missile to Vietnam era missiles?

Cobra maneuver is perhaps just a stunt designed to thrill audience in air shows. It could also be a not-so-subtle hint other fighters about the its capability. I was just wondering that with a more powerful AESA radar and legendary agility of Flanker class, Su 30 MKI may soon be without a peer in the region. :super:

No, modern missiles are much more reliable and advanced but the counter measures progressed as well. Dog fighting is still a basic quality of any fighter pilot, short range missiles and cannons are compulsory on any modern fighter jet and super maneuverability a must have on any new 5 gen fighter.

Well even if you lock on something at 400 Kms (which won't happen in the first case) The BVRs in most likely case will only be fired between 50 KMs and 70 KMs. And from there getting in WVR is not too far unless you are doing shoot and scoot.

Guys! Check out this beast! Thrust vectoring at its height!

Good to see our own Desi pilots doing most of the maneuvers.
