Computer experts?

Your RAM is attached on your motherboard..that magical thing is Motherboard....

ahhh...damn...last hope is getting it to work and then checking it with my work desktop screen (though i did plug it with my tv screen and it didnt work)

And then look to see if there are some computer experts in the dept...

If I send you a pix can you see if I have removed everything there is to remove....I mean I dont know what names means if I have no idea how it looks in my laptop...
do u see ur Ram? just remove it,dont need to remove other things mentioned in article...

.
I had a similar issue with my desktop last week, followed Some youtube vids and resolved it(CMOSS). Not sure about laptops but see if one of these works.
Succes!

BSOD is a good sign. If its BSOD, the lappy is alive. Only the OS(Windows) is dead.
not necessarily, could be a hardware error too

BSOD was last 2 weeks ago error new problem screen not working at all..BSOD was the last thing that it showed before it died :(

atikmpag.sys BSOD.. I googled a bit, it could be anything.. a faulty overheating GPU, a driver error... impossible to know further now that it wont even boot properly so you can do an analysis on the .dmp file

best to take it to a workshop, in case the repair requires a clean install of the OS (which means wiping all old data off it.. in case your data was in the same drive/partition as the OS) tell them you need to recover it and copy it to a safe location.. the other option would be to reinstall the OS without a format, and then there's some good tools to recover old files (probably get your project files back but the program/software will be lost with the old registry) .. and that's a real headache even for computer nerds so you probably don't want to go there..

just take it to a shop, or, shit happens, man up, start from scratch :undecided:

I just hope it doesn't cost you much either in terms of work or monies.

I swear I am gonna kill those people in the institute ....
ok its having another seizure? pagal hogiyea hai kiya??

Why can't you just get all the softwares on a different/new laptop ? Check with the software vendor. Most software companies can get you a replacement. And all your data files can be easily recovered from your current laptop's hard drive.

Or a quicker solution is to find on ebay/amazon or other markets the exact same model as your laptop and simply swap hard drives.

Actually my data is not soo important as I have backup of the final results...BUT I need the software to run my final (hopefully final) analysis for a paper I am supposed to publish in March....this will push it further and the worst part is that gene region has been highlighted by other people so if I dont publish now it will loose its value...worse thing is I will have to email my data to my supervisor in country A to run the data and mail me back the analysis....he will be pissed as he always has more than 3 projects running side by side and having to do my part would piss anyone off...esp when he throws large chunks at me throwing them back to him will be ego bruise! and I might get in trouble in future!

Hmmm...well software is registered to institute A in country A ...I am working on a project in Uni B in country B...while finishing up project from A too.....I have my hands full to fly back and get stuff fixed or posting this thing back would cost me a fortune...

As for the software replacement, I am not the owner it was bought by a lab technician who didnt get her contract extended...I could get the CD from my supervisor and install it again in my work desktop but then i wont be able to work from home which I dont mind but its a long shot to even try to convince uptight British supervisor that this is an issue and I need his CD!

for the future.. never ever install big programs (work or play) in the same drive/partition where windows is installed, usually the C drive.. I learnt that the hard way :hitwall:
yea well i recently moved all my pix to D drive ...but saving my pix is not exactly what I am after ....the software refused to work when it was installed in a different drive..control freak software!

Yup.... Why ask ?
just surprised !!!

Thanks everyone

for the suggestions and help....I guess it is useless :(

Just let me get to country A and smash the admin for not giving me support by forming some form of an agreement with Uni B!

So now lets move to agenda 2.....new tablet as I am reluctant to buy another laptop coz then in June I will have to hand carry 2 laptops and I am not upto that... So suggestions and idea... :pop:

Let me get this straight, you have a dead laptop that has data you need on it that you need ? or are you just looking for suggestions on a new laptop/tablet to replace the dead laptop ?

the surface pro 3 is pretty good, they describe it as a 'laplet' .. more than a tab, almost a laptop

does uni B in country B not offer the same software to its students ?

and why is it that hard to convince a supervisor that you need access to a software which is vital to your project ? If it is an industry standard software that is widely used, uni B probably already has access to it.

Uni B is stingy...they spend on my greenhouse related stuff and Institute A spends on all the genetic part of the research...

new PC time ! :yahoo:

I'd always always recommend a custom desktop (DIY, or pick each part and have a shop glue it together for you) but it looks like mobility is a requisite here. Just do your research before your make the purchase, I've heard good things about the surface pro thing, might want to look into it.. or maybe there's something better cheaper and that fits your needs, let us know, take care
