COAS visits South Africa, meets Gen. Masondo

RAWALPINDI: General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff, Monday met South Africa’s army chief Lieutenant General Vusumuzi Ramakala Masondo to discuss bilateral defence ties.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the South Africa army chief lauded professional prowess and sacrifices of Pakistan army in fighting terrorism.

Gen. Sharif also visited South Africa defence production facilities to explore possibilities of enhancing defence collaboration and training exchanges between the two countries.

Earlier, the South Africa army chief received the COAS upon his arrival on a 3-day official visit to African country.

General Sharif was presented 21 guns salute and guard of honour. –Samaa

South Africa has good defence industry specially when it comes to Artillery

Perhaps minor defense cooperation MoUs may be signed, or co-production deals on minor items at most. Nothing major should come out of this, as it seems to be more of a courtesy call to maintain good relations.

Indeed due to Uncle Sam we always have difficulties having defence pacts with countries like SA.

Not really. SA and Pakistan have quite a good relationship, and SA has offered to sell it's equipment to Pakistan, along with cooperate in defense projects. It's mostly Pakistan that ends up backing out, mostly due to funding problems. While the US does have some pressure, it's not as much as you think.

So I'm guessing a JV on small arms maybe?

Not really. SA and Pakistan have quite a good relationship, and SA has offered to sell it's equipment to Pakistan, along with cooperate in defense projects. Nah brother I knew it its not funding BELIEVE me :). I have my limits can't speak much :).
