ISLAMABAD: A special corps commanders conference that reportedly lasted around seven hours was held at the military’s General Headquarters (GHQ) on Tuesday.

Chaired by Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the huddle reviewed the security challenges facing the country, as well as the preparedness of the armed forces to deal with any situation that may develop.

Sources told Dawn that the forum considered the continuing unprovoked ceasefire violations committed by India on both the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary, as well as the irresponsible statements emanating from New Delhi.

But in a rare move, the army’s PR wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) did not issue any official statement following the marathon special meeting of top military commanders.

The ISPR usually issues a brief statement outlining the crux of the discussion, but the lack of an official account of the huddle triggered all sorts of rumours about what transpired behind closed doors on Tuesday.

This echoed what happened a day earlier, as there was no official announcement from the ISPR regarding the meeting.

ISPR Director General Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor did not to respond to queries about what was discussed in the meeting and whether the corps commanders talked about the prevailing political situation in the country.

The meeting took place a day after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif appeared before an accountability court in connection with the corruption references filed against him on the orders of the Supreme Court.

On that day, ministers, PML-N leaders and supporters were barred from entering the judicial complex by Rangers personnel, who inexplicably took over security of the courts from the police, even though their deployment had not been requisitioned by the relevant authorities.

The army chief is believed to have taken the corps commanders into confidence about his recent visit to Afghanistan and his interaction with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Just the fact they could stay together for 7 hours is an achievement

compared to our politicians who wouldn't last 30 mins.

.
This is good, let the insiders & outsiders keep guessing what happened in there. Plan it perfect whatever it was.

But please keep the army away from politics this time.

We, the common Pakistanis were the ones who sent these culprits to parliament & PM house and we send them over & over. We are the ones who are responsible to uproot them from there and we almost did it. It was nation's struggle led by IK that NS was brought to justice, disqualified and there is much more to come. They are showing their true colors by insulting judiciary & military which is indirectly endorsement of 2nd narrative that they are not loyal to our country. Media should keep reminding the nation about this till next election because we have a very short memory, we forget things very fast.
But for the moment civil & military leadership should focus on regional & international developments and let the army stay away from Islamabad IMO.

Some of very serious issues has been discussed in this meeting, which Dawn hasn't posted , one of them is PMLn govt standoff with PA and recent Ahsan Iqbal attitude toward rangers. Today rangers has officially withdraw themselves from parliament security . Also Ahsan Iqbal new allegation that after ISI agents were present in the court during recent NAB hearing of NS.

The nation needs to thank Gen. Kiyani for allowing these thugs to win the elections in 2013.

Was Gen. Kiyani chairman of election commission?
Actually credit goes to Imran Khan, who agreed on corrupt election commission, despite warnings and protests and evidence from Dr. TuQ.
Wherever NS stands today is because of JIT out come. Now Imran Khan have no other choice but to beat the drum which is around his neck by circumstance.

Nor Sir! ...Gen Kiyani was not the Chairman for EC. But he did nothing prior to and during the elections to stop the rigging from happening.

IK only agreed for the election commissioner - who was a reputed man.

...and it was IK who did beat the drum for a year, for the sake of the country and the nation, that resulted in starting of the SC hearing and eventual formation of JIT
