Chinese P3C - An alternative for PC 3?

This Plane lands in Sea or Land if Land than Pakistan should get this one if they don't get orion

Its air frame clearly indicate that it can only b operated through land so there is no possibility of sea landing except we have a AC in future with is quite out of debate ..................

At the moment our preference is p3c orion but due to tense relation with US, difficult to get them.Thats why we are looking for alternative plane that can satisfy PN requirements.

Pakistan have Atlantique Maritimes.

Alas ... but only one has left. we can replace Fokkers and one Atlantique with Chinese platform.

By considering what US has given to India we must not give preference to P3s . Its better to have some other advance platform atleast compatible to Indian P8I. As for as most of the chine stuff is concern like P3C its always a good option because they are affordable + compatible + mostly come with TOT + with out any string so its always best for us

Hani we don't need MPA to counter MPA, we need it to improve our capability of ASW or other surface warfare capabilities ...

Its indeed my point brother but how can we improve our ASW when we consider a old US platform for our 1st preference we must consider and practice other options too.

Okay I asked this because they have also a water landing plane Now if this plane has both Anti Ship and Anti Submarine Missile and also radar System than we should go for it

But currently problem we are facing is that nthing is comparable to US stuff P8 is available in market to us.Thats why we are forced to reply on P3C Orion or looking in to Chinese new plane about which difficult to say how goo:confused:d it is.

Images emerge of Chinese Y-8 MPA variant

Ted Parsons, Correspondent - Washington, DC

Newly disclosed images confirm the existence of a version of the Shaanxi Aircraft Corporation (SAC) Y-8/Y-9 medium transport aircraft that has been adapted by the Chinese company into a maritime patrol aircraft (MPA).

An SAC Y-8 medium transport aircraft adapted as a maritime patrol platform.

Referred to as the Y-8Q or Y-8GX6, this is the latest version of the 'Category III' platform that uses a redesigned wing and pressurised fuselage with composite structures (completed with the assistance of the Antonov Corporation), WJ-6C turboshaft engines and six-bladed propellers. This design also forms the basis for the Y-9 transport that was first revealed in 2005 but which only entered production in the past 12 months.

Long awaited by analysts since SAC started developing 'New High' special-mission versions of the Y-8 medium transport, this new version appears to be distinguished by a large chin-mounted sea-search radar, an electro-optical system aft of the nose wheel and an ordnance bay just in front of the main wheels. It also has a pronounced magnetic anomaly detector (MAD) boom and domed windows in the aft fuselage for observation.

The Y-8 MPA variant will have considerable reach and will significantly enhance China's ability to patrol and assert its sovereignty claims in the East and South China Seas. An empty Y-8 with maximum fuel has an estimated range of about 6,680 km, although a loaded Y-8 MPA's range will be somewhat less. It can be expected to carry a range of air-launched torpedoes, anti-ship cruise missiles and sonar buoys that have already been developed for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).

Recent images also confirm that the PLAN is taking delivery of the Shaanxi Y-8W/KJ-200 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, which is distinguished by a 'balance beam' linear phased-array radar system. Both the KJ-200 and the Y-8 MPA could be used to provide targeting data for land- and sea-launched anti-ship missiles.

The emergence of the Y-8 MPA came in the same week that Aviation Industries Corporation (AVIC) revealed the maritime patrol variant of the X'ian Aircraft Industries Corporation MA60 regional airliner at the 2011 Dubai Airshow.

AVIC officials confirmed to Jane's that the MPA prototype of the SAC MA60 - a development of the X'ian Y-7, which in turn was a copy of the Antonov An-26 - is being developed to meet a new requirement for an unarmed maritime patrol and rescue aircraft, primarily from China's maritime police agencies.

In recent years China has built more and larger patrol ships for its Fisheries Administration, Maritime Safety Agency and Coast Guard, all of which have been involved in coastal patrol work that includes affirming China's sovereignty in disputed areas of the East and South China Seas. If purchased, the MA60 MPA would extend these organisations' range.

The MA60 MPA has an unaltered nose configuration but will be equipped with a search radar. Under the fuselage there also appear to be domes that could represent a small search radar and an electro-optical device. While the MA60 has a range of 1,600 km, it is likely the MPA version would carry additional fuel.

COMMENT

The emergence of the Y-8 MPA comes at a time when the PLAN has also started to build large ocean-going catamarans similar in size to the US Navy's T-AGOS ocean surveillance ship, in addition to moored sonar buoys and large towed sonar arrays that have been under development for many years. Such developments suggest that China intends to pursue a layered anti-submarine warfare (ASW) strategy in which moored and ship-carried acoustic sensors are used to cue Y-8 ASW aircraft and shipborne ASW helicopters.

While it may take many years to realise such an ASW system, its emergence poses new questions for the US, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore: all of which have placed increasing reliance on submarines as part of their regional naval strategies.

Its capabilities are unknown still so we can,t say its inferior or superior to p8. So still have to w8 with cross fingers i hope and i love to see this bird,s full potential and its chances to serve our land.....

I mean again, why Chinese copy PC3 styles from US? Can't they create own creatives something new?

Hi,

Tragically you people---mostly are very young---you wouldnot know of the american P3C that was on a spy missions along chinese border and got hit by the wing of aJ8 during flight and had to crash land in emergency in mainland china many a years ago----chinese took apart that plane piece by a pieceand returned the whole aircraft back in crates.

So---now china has the exact copy of P3C and why do they need to spend their money when they got the info for pretty much free.

Hi,

With these kinds of aircraft---you really don't need the best of them to do the job---what you need is a highly trained crew and an extremely pro-active thinking officer in charge of the flight----this a passive form of defence----in this form of defence---you really don't need the sci fi stuff----. Your superior crew will make the difference but on top of that---the officer incharge will make it or break it----depending on how much freedom of thought and interference he allows the operators without showing prejudice----an independant thinkers will win.
