What's new

Chinese FM Wang Yi scheduled to visit Dhaka tomorrow

India has no control about BD per capita. It could stop trading with BD but then it would also come off badly as well lol.

They would of course like to keep ahead of BD as a matter of pride but even the hardest core Hinduvta realise that an economically successful BD is actually good for India overall.

BD is the 4th largest export market now for India and could become 3rd largest by 2030.

India even stands to make a lot of money(hundreds of milllions of dollars every year) just by transit fees once hydroelectric power starts flowing from Nepal/Bhutan to BD via it's territory. The first power will flow in 2026.

All those that are against trade with India have no answer to what exactly is the alternative? One or two have even suggested Pakistan but I think they need to look at a map just to see how ridiculous this proposition is.
Anyway Pakistan is a tiny economy that is smaller than BD and the gap will grow as BD is likely to keep growing a lot faster than Pakistan over the next 10-15 years.

No wonders their views hold absolutely no sway on the ground as they are not grounded in logic and common sense.

BD absolutely must try to maintain good relations with India as then it would have this large country as a balance to the USA and China. This is something unique that BD can and is leveraging in the global competiton between USA and China.

I am with you as far as BD needs India and AL has managed our relationship quite well - but Indians wishing for a prosperous BD, I can't see that.

They don't want an extremely islamicised BD, nor do they want communal disorder on their doorstep - in these areas, AL and India's interests are aligned and, rightly or wrongly, Indian intervention has been allowed. Personally, I believe that AL has balanced this intervention well.

I also agree that india does not want to destroy BD or socially engineer Islam from BD - they know from dealing with religion in India that this is impossible. And AL would not allow it anyway as it would make the party unelectable.

But that still doesn't mean India wants BD to prosper. All countries would rather have a backwards, weak country as a neighbour, who is not a threat and which is compliant - India is no different. But Bangladeshis are not stupid and Hasina is playing their game to our advantage.

Dude, rather than make flippant remarks try and argue your point as to why you disagree with someone.

Most of you guys are living in the past and that is why it is hard to take you lot seriously at times.

Not participating in the discussion but as a general rule try to avoid people who post this kind of remarks without explanation.

I would have to disagree with you here.

Before asserting any kind of dominance over a not so prosperous and weak BD, India cares more for it's own territorial integrity and prosperity.

No matter how much India wishes they could develop W Bengal and the NE States by themselves, they know that without a strong and prosperous BD that simply cannot happen.

Also BD is the key to uplifting the economies of Nepal and Bhutan. India would like those countries at least not to fall into the Chinese orbit and working with BD to uplift them is in it's own strategic interests.

If you look at the detail of what has been built and proposed, then we can sketch out a region of 400 million where goods, services, telecommunications and energy flow freely. This looks like it could happen as soon as 2030.

Without BD then India's hope of stabilising and bringing prosperity to its Eastern region will simply remain a hope in the distant future.

In essence India has realised and is supporting a prosperous and strong BD for it's own interests.

Moreover having a large weak uneducated population next door means you can feed them all manner of sub par products that you cannot otherwise dispose of.

Some here would love to "double guess" Indian intentions, as if they have close connections to India's MoFA. Figment of people's aspirational and fertile imagination as if they could "influence" India to change their stripes....India does not listen to unappointed non-Indian shills, they do whatever suits their selfish interest, and that does not include seeing a prosperous (or powerful/independent) Bangladesh - free to choose their own destiny NOT BOUND by Indian whims.

We have friggin' seen last fifty years of Indian action with Bangladesh on where their intentions are and how they treat us as a neighbor. If unappointed India shills decide to be deaf and blind is their business.

When I suggested we minimize trade with India and maximize (diversify) trade with other groupings like ASEAN and D-8 countries - I wasn't referring to Pakistan. However for agricultural products like onions or potatoes, Pakistan could be a similar (or even cheaper) alternative, if shipping is not a huge factor. Definitely better quality products than India and there is the additive factor of mending fences with Pakistan.

If India decides they will not export products like Onion, what alternative do we have to stabilize our market for these items? Indian govt. policies are selfish, whimsical and illogical to say the least, we all saw this with even vaccines.

He did. Wang Carr got back from Cambodia before His Excellency Wang Yi left.

This is from yesterday afternoon. MOU's signed, agreements reached, everyone is just plum happy. 8-)

And Alga saw him off at the VVIP terminal. Bosom buddies and that is how we like things. Glad to have our most honored guest. :-)

Earlier, Jaishankar made a feeble attempt in Cambodia to convert Alga to vegetarianism looking at his ill fitting jacket. But laying off of goat curry (Dumba ka rezala) is not in Alga's plans.

Wonder if J-10C is in the works for BAF?

Also, maybe some more Chinese platforms for BN?

We may have come full circle and be back to pre 2017 relationship given Bangaldesh may have been put off by how the US has behaved lately.

All we can do is guess but I'm a believer in the mantra: hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Maybe India has no bad intentions for BD - but it won't be wise to depend on their good nature either.

I'd love that. Pakistan is getting those for sure. But China does not want to piss off India any more than necessary....who knows.

There will be another round of dhoti-wetting in Delhi - just like the sub-purchase last time.

We shall see.

Mash'Allah. I want China to rise.

China should try to find its influence in Pakistan, Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia.
