Here are my opinions - take them with a pinch of salt.
Because of AL propaganda, some people (and the AL propagandists and India shills here) are propagating falsehoods about the real state of Bangladesh. I have posted videos about patriot university professors here before who have openly stated that Bangladesh' economic state is very vulnerable and essentially a mirage (morichika). Apologies to
@BananaRepublicUK - I will use his points.
1. Just because Bangladesh right now is not any geo-political or military camp does not mean it will be spared of any global geo-political tussle - especially ECONOMICALLY. we have seen the effects already where inflation was (and is still) causing havoc with food and gasoline prices. Not choosing a side will not save us. We will need to look at other factors to save us from economic shock with such a large population. Our economy is not RELATIVELY self-contained in a microcosm by itself, like India.
2. We may not be doing as badly as some African nations but minimum garments wages are still Tk. 5000 a month, GDP nominal better than India notwithstanding. Our base (bhit) is not strong (mazboot). We are dependent on foreign countries for exports to Walmart and Target which CAN and WILL get effected if there is a recession in the US and EU. Foreign countries can and do manipulate us. Like a famous Bengali once said, one cannot achieve industrialization by selling shirts and undies.
3. Not having extremism within the country only placates Indian Hindutva folks satisfied with keeping us under Delhi's thumb, global powers (including the big neighbor) can still play havoc with our economy and find ways to destabilize us, we have too many traitors and shills for other countries such as the neighbor. We sit around and are even too meek to identify these shills and foreign agents.
4. Our military establishment doesn’t have the loyalty of the general population anymore. As RAW has been totally successful to convert even the top echelon of all the armed services into Hasina-sycophancy and biding the dictat of India (Please watch the natija - no serious offensive fighter capability, Navy frigate builds stalled, minimal tank offensive capability, no offense all around in other words, we are a glorified Sikkim. Once in a while Hasina throws the armed services a few trainers and helis as dog bone). We have seen how partisan the top army person got dealing with contraband and helping AL convert the RAB and police into tools for a one-party police state - which got us sanctioned.
5. Bangladesh being a homogeneous society is no guarantee of strength against outside influence. Outside major powers have all sorts of other ways with which they can manipulate us. Let's just leave it at that.
