Chinese companies to team-up with Indian firms to bid for five high-speed railway projects

I don't think high speed trains should be the priority for India. First improve the existing infrastructure of railways and then talk of bullet trains. China is spending $300 billion on high speed rail. Do we have that kind of money or expertise??

Both projects will go on side by side and FDI will solve funding issue.

are you sure? It says bullet train and high speed railway right in the article.
Hogh Speed is currently being considered for Mumbai - Ahmedabad route only. While Semi-High Speed (160 to 200) is being considered for 9 routes.

The High Speed was also approved for Golden Quadrilateral but there is no progress other than the announcement in July.
Indian Railways to conduct studies on Diamond Quadrilateral Network of High Speed Rail connecting four major metro and growth centres of the country i.e. New Delhi- Mumbai - Chennai Kolkata New Delhi.

Mumbai- Ahmadabad sector, where a number of studies has been done, has been identified for further development for Introduction of High Speed Trains. In this regard, a provision of Rs. 100 crore has been made in the Railway Budget 2014-15 for High Speed Project to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. RVNL/High Speed Rail Corporation of India Ltd. (HSRC).

HSRC has been incorporated as a fully-owned subsidiary of RVNL, a Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) of Ministry of Railways.

The present composition of Board of Directors of HSRC is Chairman and three Directors. It has started functioning. The objectives of HSRC include conducting pre-feasibility studies, preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for corridor as decided by Government, and preparation of technical parameters for High Speed Rail (HSR) system, preparation of model concession agreement, developing various financing models and PPP options, discussions with stake holders including funding agencies, obtaining various government approvals etc. for development and implementation of High Speed Rail corridors. Skills of Staff and officers will be developed at appropriate Institutes in India and abroad, through training programmes.

We surely don't have the money to build to build such a network so until and unless China finances it,this project will be limited to studies.

With Desi touch, we can bring the coast down significantly.

whats in it for foreign companies?? Do we have that kind of rider ship to justify the expenditure??

Actually we should laydown a criterion that our express Trains should travel at 80KM + on an average. Currently it is 50 to 60 KM. With some safety devices, and reduction in unnecessary small stops and more sidings we can easily achieve that. If a distance is 800 KM , train should do that in 10 hours.

stupid and short-sighted moves by those companies. I hope this didn't get the support of our government. Let india go for japan's high quality and super expensive products.

Our railway is the most inexpensive in the world. Our Desi touch will convert that costly Japanese technology into a very affordable and reliable technology.

If you add desi touch to Chinese Rail equipment you get PR.So no desi touches are needed to it :D

This means that the ban on Chinese companies in critical sectors has been lifted.
Very good for Indo-Sino ties.

It is because India people cannot afford higher price.
Neither Japan nor China will do charity in India.
They are both here to make money out of India.
No one will transfer the tech to India and lower the price..
