Myth: China is undergoing military expansion.
Fact: China has a smaller number of troops, tanks, planes and ships than 10 years ago. In addition, military spending is less than 2% of total GDP, a figure that has dropped for two decades.
Myth: China has angered all of its neighbours.
Fact: Of the 14 countries China shares its borders with, only India and Vietnam have active land disputes with China. Out of 10 ASEAN states, only Vietnam and Philippines have confrontations with China. Of course, adding Japan and South Korea to that list is a must. With the exception of Vietnam, all others are American client states.
