China's Manufacturers Are Shifting Towards Zero-Labor Factories

Are you telling me that Chinese infrastructure and supply chain is better then United States and Canada ? I ask you again, if one can produce the same goods in USA, manufactured by Chinese manufacturer in China, and sell it direct to Walmart at much lower price, plus shipping in hours compare to months or weeks from China. Where do u think they will buy from. Keep in mind we are talking about robotic labour.

Why not?

Look at China's railway and highway which are both number one in the world, and look at the current US infrastructures which are crumbling, that's a fact that many American experts actually did admit.

China didn't become the number one manufacturing powerhouse just with the cheap labor cost. Many countries have even much lower wage than China, yet they didn't become the largest manufacturing nation.

. .
China now has the world's best railway system, road system and seaports , airports are also among the world's best, US and Canadian infrastructure are old and declining.

Yes, the only infrastructure part we badly suck is the sewer, so i hope the current could take more approach to improve this part in the near future.

.
yes, China's infrastructure and supply chain is better then United States and Canada , and China has both the manufacturing base and the market.

China has only its own market, which incidentally you are subscribing to reduce. Also, not only are you subscribing to reduce the Chinese market, you are doing so in a global situation when other countries will grow their population, so the reduction in market size compared to the world will be more pronounced.

yes ,China has the wrold biggest market and world's biggest industrial base. world's best supply chain, and we also export a lot. no country in the foreseeable future can challenge the combination of those factors.

Even we reduced our population. We are still talking about a population of 800million people. That do u think is not a big market? And the fact our GDP will raise to $20000 per person in future. Meaning we can still beat US economy.

There is nothing about time. Technology is progress curve. We still know nothing about many aspects to replace humans with robots.

Heck, we are way way way off creating a machine that can replace humans. And even, if it replaces humans in certain fields it will just increase productivity.

Lets look 500 years back. Everyone was engaged in Agriculture. Today, the population is MANY TIMES more. Yet, Agriculture with right technology and industrial policies needs very less labor.
What happened?
Humans moved to higher skilled things, where they were able to extract more out of themselves.

So keep yourselves at 500 years back, where all jobs were in Agriculture, and suppose China was having the same problem then. Would you have recommended them to halve their population, that of 500 years back, since Agriculture will be taken care by technology anyways?

Similarly, there will come a time when robot may be able to cook, or perhaps do more mundane stuff in the next 50 years, but then the race among nations will move to higher skilled things. The proportion of engineers, scientists will exponentially increase. You don't want to have less humans at that stage.
How many scientist do you need compare to a labour intensive manufacturing plant? Can all india 1.2billion people all become scientist or architect? Please be realistic. A service sector industrious couple with a substantable manufacturing economy will only require a certain portion of population.

Overpopulation will lead to struggle for survival that will lead to unrest and social instabilities.

Did I ever comment on Chinese infrastructure? I didn't.

And you are wrong. China DOESN'T have the biggest market yet. China's GDP is 60% that of United States, and even in that GDP consumption is a much lower fraction than the United States. Of course China may have a bigger market for certain specific things. But overall, China doesn't YET have the biggest market.

When our GDP per capita is on par with the US, we can comfortably reduce our population even by half.

China's population will peak to 1.5-1.7 billion in the near future, then start to decline by the time when the robotic automation is good enough to handle a large part of the manufacturing base.

.
That is why I am advocating lower birth and a more manageable population. China has 7 million new graduate hit the market last years and many end up as nanny or odd job labourers.

This year the number of graduate can be worst.

Nannies are paid well in excess of 10000 yuan per month plus board and food here in Shanghai。:D

China has the world's best infrastructure already, roads, ports, airports, railways...,those make the transportation of the products very fast and convenient, those combined factors make China's manufacturing industry unbeatable.
The indian go uses circular arguments. You won't win against him. He has to get the last word in. Put him on ignore list

So u gonna just kill off people? maintaining a stable population is important for domestic consumption and war

Not killing off people, but the baby boomers who were born from 1940-1970s are going to pass away by the middle of the 21th century.

The baby boomers were born with a very large family that usually consisted with many siblings.

The new generation from 1980-1990s are going to be the new aging population, but we were only born as the single child, so China's base population is going to shrink by that time.

They are severely overestimating the things that industry needs. Even in a highly automated industry - chemicals and pharmaceuticals - you still need alot of people doing things like testing, regulatory affairs, etc. that machines can't take care of.

You make a false argument. You assume that the US consumer is the ultimate aim for any corporation to sell to. That's false. There is nothing special about US consumer other than the fact they like to spend base on credit. Corporate will cater to the bigger market if everything else is equal (manufacturing base, transportation cost, tax fee, etc..). In order words, if manufacturing goods are equal between China/USA, Walmart will still want to set up and sell their products to Chinese consumer because we got a 4 to 1 advantage.
