Till the September 11, companies just paid lip service to the Disaster recovery plans.
Even now, many of the firms have created the plans, but how effectively these plans will be put to action has to be seen when disaster strikes.
One of the ways to recover from disasters is by leveraging the Internet.
Some of the points that the companies can consider are:
1.Avoid Concentration of Work - have more offices scaterred,
2.Multilocational Data Mirroring across countries andContinents,
3.Outsource to multiple vendors across Continents
so that risk of business disruption is minimised - possibility of shifting work across the vendors
4. Store your sensitive information at locations less prone to disasters - especially man made,
Create a checklist of all the possible disasters that can strike, and then work out how each of the possiblity will be handled.
There are cases wherein protection from a Disaster maybe insufficient to tackle another -
In case of one company, the information backup was kept in the form of CDs and stored in the same premises in Fire Proof Vaults. It can save you from fire, but in case of an earthquake, the protection may be inadequate
