China tops, India last, in list of 12 nations important to US: Poll

I can tell you right here what the top 3 are going to be. It is Pakistan, China and the US in no particular order.

I don't know why you guys are so focused on us. India is hardly even thought of in China.

America, I can understand. Though I would prefer it if they looked somewhere else.

Well the similarities are there, and we fought a war.

Americans in general tend to over-estimate our economic power.

I saw a survey that showed that most Americans believed that China is the number one largest economy in the world. When in fact... we are a distant second behind the US.

We are not the 2nd, and we are the 7th.
The Chinese government issued<2010 Overall national ranking> said: 1st United States, 2nd Japan 3rd Germany, 4th Canada, 5th France, 6th Russia, 7th China.

Isn't that obvious? China is a huge country, developing at the fastest rate possible, and a model/standard for India.

China is important to India does not necessarily mean that India would be important to China as well. For example, the US is the major trading partner to more than 50 countries in the world (safe assumption), that does not mean that those countries carry equal weightages to the US.

Your policy makers do. thats what matters.

as far as Indian importance for US is concerned it is only linked with China.

as long as China is important for US there will be not much for India.

besides if US is threatened by Chinese growth then be sure US will be threatened by Indian growth too.

so a complex situation

chinas importants is as a competitor and indias is as an alley..one is negative other one is positive.
yes america can feel same insecurity for india's growth too but not in near future..even if that happens the level of threat will only be limited to economic.

And agree that india is important because of china factor same is the case of china pakistan relations..india factor.
finally i hate americans because they don't treat as equal partners they want us to be their puppets, their hypocrisy and i hate their military agreements etc.

of course china and pak are important to US.

china is biggest competitor and trade partner and pakistan is america's partner in war against terror.

i am personally very happy with last stop.

Congratulations to China.. wish you very best to hold on to that position.

You're right. However, I was talking purely about economic size, given that this seems to be the main issue here.

At the end of the day, we are nowhere near as powerful as the American people think.

However, I won't complain if others overestimate/underestimate us, or even both at the same time. Sun zi would approve.

I would love for us to be in the same category as Germany, Britain or Japan: not big enough to be perceived as a threat, and not small enough to be irrelevant.

American attention is sometimes negative and sometimes positive. Some call for partnership (G2) and some call for trade restrictions.

Indian attention towards us however, seems to be overwhelmingly hostile, going by the Indian media at least.

China needs at least another decade to keep a low profile.

this is wat happens wen media is given free run. there are both positives and negatives on that front. one has to simply live with it. personaly, i wish someone from indian govt asks media to be more responsible in reporting. i want some really quiet years for india totally concentrated on economic growth.

sorry, but why would Americans worry about what happens in India. It isn't enemy of that country,is it? No India wouldn't want climb up that ladder.

TOI seems to have wrong perception of what it means to Americans. It seems like TOI wants whatever China has even if its bad, lol.

Please don't take whatever Indian media states as the gospel truth. Do read about the number of Indian traders itching for trade partnerships with China, the number of children in India learning Mandarin to try and exploit opportunities in China etc.

America has free media.

Hong Kong has free media.

This is not an issue of media freedom, but rather an issue of hatred.
