China to build 93,000-ton atomic-powered aircraft carrier

perhaps it's like you say.

in anycase, the ability of china to build large ships was never in question. So build away... ;)

But to build a 100000 tons nuclear supercarrier is another story, only USA is capable of doing this so far.

USSR had tried a 85000 tons nuclear supercarrier, but it never got finished.

I think the Russian refusal is probably to hamper the production of J-15s, which will operated off carriers. It is rumored that the Type 085s will use ski jump while Type 089 electromagnetic catapult

This rumor is fake, it has already been debunked by the Chinese government.

If the US can afford 11, we could at least afford 5.5.

China can afford 5 aircraft carriers however will they be 100,000 similiar to the USA ones heck even the USSR couldn't only a 85,000 USSR navy was lacking they only started to really build on it after 1962 after the cuban missile crisis.

Well, we are definitely trying our best to build our equivalence of the Gerald Ford class.

China of today has surpassed USSR in many fields, while we have bought the blueprint of the nuclear carrier from Ukraine 15 years ago.

We haven't reached the preeminence of USSR in diplomacy yet.

USSR had great support from Middle Eastern, Eastern European, African, Latin American and Southeast Asian countries and had ideological and diplomatic parity with the US. We, to put it mildly, don't.

The closest we have was Leftist Riots in Hong Kong 1967, Malayan Emergency, and Japanese Red Guards, but all got crushed by the colonialist military. Today, we don't enjoy too much political support except from African, non-Mexico Latin American, and some Southeast Asian contries.

It is a good start though.

Developing countries are the future, not just economically, but one day politically too. It will pay off in the long term.

Indeed China has surpassed the former USSR in many fields. however China if it wants to reach the level of the USA first must Surpass Russia in all fields. after that Comes the countries of France, UK and Germany then it's the to the USA.

China is already ahead of Russia in many fields.

In fact, Russia has lost many valuable technologies after the collapse of USSR.

They lost their aircraft carrier shipyard and their best large airplane in Ukraine, and many production lines were shut down because of the lack of the important components were left in their former Soviet Republics.

Indeed China has surpassed Russia in Many fields and the fields russia has an advantage in won't last that long, the Russian Defense industry also went through a lack of funding during the 90's including many setbacks for the Russian Military. Russia also lost alot of it's scientist and engineers left to the west.
