Americans generally have a lack of knowledge of India as a whole. For example most I have met think India is Buddhist country. They certainly don't care enough about India to want to help them militarily without payment so thats a dead give away.

Nor would they get so offended when someone says something negative about India.

Or talk about leasing nuclear missile submarines to India. Wet dreams.

Not to mention the military embargo following the Indian nuclear test in the late nineties. I believe that the confiscation of the notes of Indian aerospace scientists working in the United States was one of the contributing factors of LCA's delay.

I ca understand why people in WV would think India is a Buddhist country but any zip code that pays more taxes than the number on the zip code would certainly know that India is a Hindu dominated country with massive poverty issues. We also know that India is a favored destination for medical toursim and a number of Americans go there every year for that. Or, did the people who think India is Buddhist not tell you all this? Now again, if you lived in Silicon Valley, Americans there can name Indian names with ease. So, the question is where do you live in America and our nation's request that you dont fall into the media trap that makes Americans look stupider than they really are.

Also, you dont believe in our strategy of establishing balance by selling arms to India? If it is all about payment, why did we have them on the sanctions list for this long and just got rid of the status for their defense entities? Also, why are we conducting joint military exercises with Indians? Apparently, we are telling them they are more than just partners. But, we are also telling them to open more of their financial and retail markets to our people. But they are not budging and there are frictions. All this exchange is happening and business people like me and a lot of other Americans track all this. This assumption that Americans dont care about global matters must stop. And, we certainly dont think India is a Buddhist country. Ridiculous!

And, how do Americans talk? Hopefully, you are not going to say "with a twang". SSBNs are among the most coveted technologies and no one is giving anyone else anything. But, I think India leased a Charlie class in the 1980s or something. Perhaps, they are basing their sub on this outdated design. Or maybe they are all cattle, no hat, like they say in Texas, and all they have is a hull. Mastering miniaturization of nuke reactor for the sub would be a good first step. But, when push comes to shove, we can always have a couple of SSBNs floating in the South China sea on their behalf.

Morgantown WV. What do you think everyone here is a redneck idiot. Okay fine there are a lot of redneck idiots but many people are very educated as Morgantown is a University town and about one third of the people here attend college. Many people live here and work in Washington D.C. Even if people had knowledge of India they certainly wouldn't advocate using American nuclear assets to protect other countries.

Nuclear assets protection is more in an armageddon like scenario when China wants to "crush" other countries like your compatriots were suggesting. Think deterrence. Why do you think we have these underwater metal hulks then? US providing a nuclear umbrella is a well known concept. It has been around since the WWII days. I am surprised that you think we wont deploy our nuclear assets to prevent war. Most foreign policy people I have talked to say that they certainly will. Also, I find it strange that Chinese think that we wont do this. I mean with all the cyber spying going on, you are bound to know that we will do this. I mean the Cold war was all about this - our nuclear protection to anyone who felt threatened by the USSR's nukes. Our policy would be the same for China's nukes. What has changed for us? The only thing I am thinking is how are we going to do all this yet keeping our trade with China going.

US provides nuclear umbrella to close allies who have no nuclear deterrence. Neither is true for India.

I am not talking about India. Our security relationship with India is not that deep. I believe India will still look to Russia for protection and I dont know much about that relationship. But, we have started selling more arms to India and delisting many of their research entities from the sanctions list and have begun working with them on their space missions. I dont think we will transfer any technology without end user monitoring. Specifically, we wont be doing anything that India can aggressively use to threaten other countries. But we did help them overcome the NSG hurdles and that we have not done for any other country. Indians obviously have their own cards to play and I think the US is not that skeptical of India's intentions as we used to be during the COld war and their role in NAM etc. It is a different world and with that I think I have typed in too many posts for the day.
