What's new

China sends its second aircraft carrier (the first domestically-made one) to the South China Sea

What's the reason for that Vietnamese to talk about Japan possibility to build over 40 helicopter carriers to match the Chinese Naval buildup? From what i understand is that China has been constructing at a nonstop pace very modern warships for years but the Japanese aren't keep up with the same kind of expansion. What is the value of producing 40 helicopter carriers when Japanese Navy doesn't have the kind of number of warships to protect these large targets? Anyone ever heard of using helicopters for battle in the high seas? Dog food seems to lower intelligence.

The JMSDF lacks those capital ships such as aircraft carrier and nuclear subs.

Their Aegis destroyers are also very few in number compared to China's, it also lacks the offensive capability.

As I repeated, the LRASM is a subsonic missile which has been confirmed by the US military.

You cannot expect such inferior to overcome the much more superior family of the Dongfeng express.

Just like you have the unrealistic expectation of a pistol to overcome a machine gun.

Absolutely stupid. VLO cruise missiles that can’t be tracked are far superior to supersonic missiles that light up radars.
LRASM is the most advanced antiship cruise missile in the world.

The DFs are unproven and have never been tested against a moving ship. The US has proven time and again it’s ability to intercept medium to intermediate range ballistic missiles.

China doesn’t have the capability to stop a massed LRASM attack. The US has the capability to decapitate your navy and merchant fleets at the outset of a war.

China routinely launches hundred DF missiles during the military drill.

The LRASM is just another overhyped product like the Zumwalt and non-functional US railgun.

China's newest Type 052DL has already equipped the advanced anti-stealth radar to track down the LRASM and F-35.

Joe Mancini, the missile’s sensor project manager at BAE Systems, explained to Popular Mechanics, explained LRASM does things differently. Instead of using an active radar system to locate its targets, LRASM uses a passive sensor to sniff out and home in. LRASM doesn’t emit any electromagnetic signals that would allow the enemy to detect it ahead of time. Instead, the missile turns the tables by homing in on enemy shipboard radars.

Imagine two people playing tag in a dark room where the person who is 'it' is empty-handed, but his opponent has a flashlight. In order to see the person who is 'it,' the defender has to turn on his flashlight. After all, he can’t defend against what he can’t see. The trick is that when the flashlight is on, 'it' has a guiding light to aim for.

This puts the enemy commander in an impossible position: As long as he wants to defend himself, he must keep his radars on and in doing so, feed LRASM the data to find him. This will even work in poor weather and against ships with stealthy anti-radar shaping, as the missile doesn’t rely on radar to find its target.

LRASM’s guidance system is based upon so-called electronics support measures(ESM) equipment originally made for the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and B-2 Spirit bomber, and the equipment went through an extensive miniaturization effort to fit it into a guided missile. ESM collects and analyzes enemy electromagnetic signals, such as radar broadcasts, to identify and help counter them. LRASM uses this equipment to sort out all of the electromagnetic noise, identify the unique radar signals of its target, and home in for the kill.

LRASM’s wide angle “floodlight” antenna can scan a wider arc in front of the missile for enemy radar emissions than radar can, reducing the area of uncertainty problem. The missile is smart enough, via artificial intelligence, to detect new threats in its flight path, classify them, and fly around them. Once it gets close enough to, say, an enemy task force center around an aircraft carrier, it can compare the ships in front of it to an onboard library of enemy ships, making sure it strikes an aircraft carrier and not a frigate. It can even strike a certain part of a ship, such as the aircraft carrier’s island or a destroyer’s missile magazine, to do maximum damage.

In addition to its guidance capability, LRASM has a range in excess of 200 miles, or three times as long as the older Harpoon missile. It’s also built with low-observable technologies, making itself harder to detect via radar. The 1,000 blast fragmentation warhead is twice the size of Harpoon’s, and a single missile would likely cripple a 9,000-ton destroyer-sized ship.

As usual, you display your ignorance. LRASM doesn’t emit electromagnetic signals. When Chinese ships turn on their radar in its feeble attempt to locate LRASMS, that’s just a homing beacon for the LRASM. Then using its advanced AI capabilities, it will fly a path of least resistance and strike the most vulnerable part of your ships and cripple it with its huge warhead. China can’t detect LRASM because it doesn’t emit EM signals, and it’s airframe emits almost no infrared signature and flys low to the sea.

As I said before, when the US launches 200 LRASMS in a multi axial attack on the PLA, China will wish it had never tangled with the US military. You are sitting ducks.

You have to first match our southern fleet which will consist 2 ACs, 20 Aegis destroyers, and 20 nuclear subs by 2025.
I admire your optimism. The US committed 6 aircraft carriers along with 207 B52 bombers and 2,000 airplanes into the battle of 1972. even the Ming army waited until she amassed 1,000 warships before attacking. Nothing to compare with the Mongols that deployed with 3 armies. You want to commit Nanhai in attacking Vietnam by 2 carriers along with few fighting ships? Ok.

If you want to send young chinese into death then that’s your problem.

Again, without USSR and China, vn is a piece of shit can't even make a rifle... You can sink an aircraft carrier by swimming...LMAO...

Nonsense!
Japan can build 5 or 10 Izumo class carriers in no time. A bit more money - let’s say - double the budget is helpful. Shinzo Abe can ask the BoJ to print money.
Here a Viet Navy captain onboard of the Izumo, at the carrier‘s steering wheel at the recent exercise.

You can multiply with 2 or even 3 for PLAN.

Meaning China will have 20 or 30 CV if japan can afford 10 CV.

I knew it, I knew it, you would defintely bring up how you survived after being bombed the shit out by US ACs and declared victory. (PS:last time you said the number of Yankees ACs is 16 )
Chest thumping dosent change anything on ground, please tell me how tiny Vietnam navy and airforce is going to deal with a much larger and advance PLA in south china sea during war.
Mr Viet, wake up, you are freaking over 40 years old, act like one.

Nope, China's near space hypersonic missile is much faster with the same range as the LRASM.

Just google Starry-Sky 2, and the LRASM is just an obsolete subsonic missile in comparison.

Dude, stop comparing the warships of the antiquity to those of the modern time.

A modern destroyer like the Type 052DL equipped with the hypersonic missile could probably sink a US supercarrier from the 1960-1970s with ease.

China has big plans for this AC. One of the things China will do with it is park it nearby Scarborough Shoal as a temp airport while dredging a permanent one. It's no longer safe to just dredge Scarborough Shoal unprotected. Should act as a more powerful deterrent from USA fonops and aggression... Makes better use of this billion dollar ship than just acting as a symbol of prestige!

LRASM is the most advanced antiship cruise missile in the world. And China doesn’t have the capability to stop it. I will take a VLO missile with advanced AI capabilities and sensors over a supersonic missile that shines bright on radar. You can see those missiles, you can’t see LRASM. Saying it’s “obsolete” shows how clueless you are.

China can’t stop LRASM and that’s gamechanging for the US military.

Yep, just like the same rhetoric that bragged that the Zumwalt is going to be the most advanced futuristic ship with the railgun and laser weapon.

History repeats my friend, I remind you of your inevitable fate.
The US deployed more than 20 ACs to the war, however in the decisive battle of 1972, they committed only 6 ACs, that was probably a mistake by the US central command.

The US underestimated Vietnam air defense at the time of the battle that consisted of several hundreds of Mig21 fighter jets and dozens of SA2 missiles batteries.
