Bottom line: India was colonized by the British for 200 years. Yet it is still has more poor than Africa, while HK and Singapore are classed as first-world cities.

How do you think the European countries developed? When were blacks given the vote in America, before or after America became a superpower?

In East Asia the same thing happened, they only became democracies after they reached developed status. And Hong Kong and Singapore are still today not classified as full democracies, despite being developed economies.

European countries were all monarchies ..many of them eased in to constitutional monarchies hundreds of yrs back and some of them had to face full blown revolutions for democratic sys..and all this happened before world war 2(a war that destroyed major portions of these countries)...or establishment of UN(Human development Index is a UN criteria).

Agree and India needs to do a lot to raise its masses from poverty, Education will play a pivotal role, Its darn difficult in India but needs to be done.

The variables in IQ are too high, it is just a variable that also needs to be considered to deliver higher learning to India's dalits and Muslim masses.

Hong Kong was never a democracy. HK under the British were never allowed to elect their own head of state. In fact, Hong Kong enjoys more democratic rights under China than they did under Britain.

But it also begs the question, HK/Singapore are two completely different systems, both were former British colonies, just like India. Yet India did not develop like them. So is it really democracy?

Hongkong and Singapore are tiny city states ..hongkong being managed by British developed much faster than communist China too ..where as Singapore adopted capitalism ..as opposed to India which was a mixed economy until 1990s.

Yes you are right..I did confuse it abolishment of slavery.

Besides being a superpower and being a developed country is not a same thing .. besides USA was first democratic country in the world ..it became a democracy after American revolution in 1776.

It's still classified as a "developing" economy though, and part of BRICS.
