China ready to work on Ctg-Kunming road link

I see many Bangladeshi confused here. On one side Bangladeshis expecting India will use Sonadia's potential in the future but talk totally opposite on other moment .

Chinese already have Kyaukphyu in Myanmar with rail line, oil-gas pipeline. So, what benefit would Sonadia serve for China.

NO bangladeshi wants India in any BD port. Awami munafiqs are not bangladeshi. This whole "transit" thingy is a major point of contention between BD's public opinion and awami munafiq dalals.

Where I named Awami League, its the Bangladeshi media/analysts who is saying Sonadia will emerge as a port of great regional importance and India will use it. Even some Bangladeshi members wrote such comments numerous times.:enjoy:

Why do you think getting business at Sonadia Port from India is a munafiq deed? Why it is also ALand not also BNP? What is your idea, BNP govt will stop serving India because a PDF member is giving objection? It is business, it is not free. Bangladesh buys $4.5 billion worth of goods and exports only $500 million worth of goods. Do not you people want to narrow this gap?

Sonadia will not be profitable to operate unless it can serve China, Burma, Laos, Bangladesh, Indian NE, Bhutan, Nepal and some of the Indian east coast shallow water ports. The cost to construct this port will surpass $7 billion. It is not a charity. BD must serve all the countries that I mentioned to make a profit out of this big investment. Otherwise, it is wiser to keep it in a fixed deposit scheme and earn interest every year.

Didn’t we hear the same that giving india transit Bangladesh will make $2.5 billion per year and Bangladesh will become next Singapore? All are proven to be indo-Awami propaganda hoax, today transit are given without any fees and destroying Bangladeshi road and river.

To let india use Sonadia same line of propaganda hoax are spreading by same indo-awami characters.

But here are some reasons india should be kept away from Chittagong and Deep sea port for any transit and export/import goods for NE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Deep sea port helps cutting export and shipping cost greatly. Currently no mother vessel anchor in CTG port due to draft issue. Exporters and importers have to use feeder vessel to ship cargo to Singapore, Dubai or Colombo to load on to mother vessel bound to US and EU. That add significant cost and lead time and cut our export competitiveness. With deep sea port mother vessel could be directly loaded, cost of shipping will decrease and our export competitiveness will increase.

2) Bangladesh itself has great need for deep sea port as Bangladesh economy is growing. In line with middle income goal much of the deep sea port capacity will be absorbed by our export and import gradually. And including part of Chinese, Myanmar, Cambodian BUT excluding indian cargo can very well make up throughput needs.

3) Not all installation should be considered just for money making venture. There is strategic and Bangladesh own business need for it.

4) Having deep sea port facility for Bangladesh increasing trade needs, cost savings and competitiveness benefit will pay off over time WITHOUT single cargo from india.

5) NE import and transit needs are not that much in volume and hardly will make any business sense compared with risk.

6) Dealing with indian cargo is security and strategic risk.

7) Indian cargo could be hazardous.

8) Indian cargo movement close to multiple key installation points (KPI) will compromise defense and military installations and vantage points.

9) Deep sea port and cargo handling will be infiltration point for indian interference in Bangladesh. That means Bangladesh will need to spend additional money and resource to safeguard from indian nefarious activities.

10) India will use any interruption in indian cargo handling as an excuse for interference and propaganda.

Hopefully this meeting will be after Awami League is removed from power and then we can emphasize to Japanese that we will not accept a road link unless it goes through Bangladesh-Myanmar border.

Japan to support road network expansion in Asia | GlobalPost

Japan to support road network expansion in Asia

The Japanese government is planning to help improve transport connectivity in South and Southeast Asia by renovating existing roads and building new ones, sources familiar with the matter said Monday.

The infrastructure support, aimed at strengthening economic ties within the regions including India and Myanmar, comes in response to Chinese-led projects to link southern China and South Asia by road and rail.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will be responsible for drawing up plans for financing and construction. It will invite officials from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand to New Delhi in mid-January to brief them on site surveys, the sources said.

Japan expects to confirm with India the plan to proceed with road-building projects in January when Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visits the country, they said.

The Japanese projects are expected to improve road connectivity between Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Thailand while giving Bhutan and Nepal better access to coastal areas.

Aging road infrastructure and constraints on network capacity and efficiency have become barriers to trade between the countries.

The economies of Bangladesh, India and Myanmar, for instance, would benefit from new roads in areas where land transport infrastructure is underdeveloped or inefficient.

Japanese companies operating in the regions are also likely to profit from better land transport connectivity, which would improve their supply chains.

But such infrastructure development may not immediately lead to improved trade between countries where diplomatic issues need to be resolved first.

Bangladesh, for instance, has limited cross-border trade with India and Myanmar due to diplomatic constraints.
