China or the US? Make your choice

.
You need to liberate your northern brothers first.

Harsh fact is, their dreams of unification are being oppressed by America.
They are militarily incapable of doing so, unless its daddy helps them.
Sad truth is, daddy is no longer interested thus the "since July 27, 1953" (58 years) is still labeled on the DMZ.

.
The idea being presented here is that one would have to choose between China and US, when that isn't the case at all.

Besides the few neighbouring countries having some minor skirmishes with China, most other countries would rather maintain good relations with US and China. At the end of the day, it'll be more beneficial to be in good rapport to both countries rather than choose one.

US is our biggest trading partner and investor here, yet at the same time, heavy investment from China continues. This model has worked well for our country, so the whole idea of choosing one side doesn't occur to most countries.

That's true. It's not black and white.

Most countries have some level of diplomatic/economic relationship with both the USA and China right now.

how dare the evil CCP lift 800 million people out of poverty??? how dare the evil CCP double the lifespan of average chinese people? chinese people rise up!:sarcastic:

If tremendous rise in number of violent protest across China are any indicator, perhaps they are.

Only ones yapping are the ones who have lost or is fast losing economic grounds to China. Who would want to look bad in front of a big bad Communist country right?

Or siding with: China, India, Russia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Singapore.

Making money and enjoying the riches business deals brings into ones country is far better than going into war. More specifically, the only ones it will hurt in the war are the Asians since the theatre would be in Asia and not America. There is no need to let America play you like a fool.

Nah, just replace US with China and make all of them China's ***** because they are all ASIANS! Oh wait, China will never do that.

Those protests are mainly like the Dalian protests, about local issues like Chemical plants, and they usually get their way. Nothing to do with the National Government at all.

Thank you for admitting that America is trying to make all ASIANS their "*****"!
Oh wait, America would never do that?

Er...why would I have to admit anything. Isn't that what you are whining about? At worse, US will be kicked out but China will never ever replace US, irrespective of the dreams Chinese hold to their heart.

No need to be so obnoxious about it. We all know your feelings. It hurts to be comparing yourself with China and looking bad regardless of which side you talk for. You are either behind or you are rapidly losing grounds. Sucks to be you sir.

At worse, US will be kicked out but China will never ever replace US, irrespective of the dreams Chinese hold to their heart.

No one wants to replace the US, certainly not China.
Who would be dumb enough to want to be the world police and lose money and good reputations in the process? Let them be I'd say. China's future will be rich and powerful unlike the other whose dream of living in lala land with its ***** is fast becoming nothing but a fanatics daydream.

Replace the US? That sounds like a nightmare rather than a dream.

Who would want to spend hundreds of billions of dollars of their own money, every single year, in order to "police the world"? And ending up with a $14 trillion debt?

I might as well buy shares in Lehman Brothers if I was that desperate to get rid of my own money.

I don't think even the Chinese members said anything about China replacing US completely.

China can become a strong economic powerhouse but US will still have a tremendous strong-hold on media and soft-power.

Most people in the world are still going to read their news in English and watch Hollywood movies regardless on China's economic progress, so we can agree on that part atleast, US will hold the upper-hand.

English as the international language was a legacy of the British Empire.

And America, as the leading English-speaking nation, will always hold the soft-power advantages that it brings. Though Canada, the UK and Australia will also benefit from it.

China will only catch up with America in economic terms in the near future, not in terms of diplomatic or military power. And certainly not in terms of soft power.

Ridiculous! No other word for this article! Unlike the cold war era, there is no longer a choice between A or B. Countries will use China to help source low cost finished goods while USA will always be a market for exports as well as significant FDI inflow for all these countries. As far as investment options go, USA currently has no major interest in natural resource hubs targeted by China. In fact it's other BRIC nations which compete with China on this front.

The article mentions countries with significant trade ties to China having stronger military ties with USA. What it fails to realize is that it's because US is one of the biggest arms suppliers to many of these countries (India being an exception but a lucrative market for USA as well as strategically placed). Even Pakistan, which is China's all weather friend currently has significant military ties with USA dating decades before the WoT started.

USA and China will continue to make money off each other. Even if US imposes tariffs on Chinese goods, US companies will still use China to source their manufacturing. A Dell or an I-phone branded as a US product will still be significantly Chinese in origin and not affected by these tariffs. This is the time to make money. All the war rhetoric allows USA and now even China to sell arms to smaller parties affected, significantly countries like Pakistan who now bank on Chinese fighters and Tanks to try and replace US assets. When push comes to shove, US and China know that one's progress goes hand in hand with the other. The global economy is too entwined right now for such things. This will continue to be a fable propagated by self proclaimed experts and Op-ed writers.
