China & New Zealand agree to strengthen military ties
China and New Zealand on Tuesday agreed to strengthen military ties and promote the two militaries' relations to a higher level.
The pledge came out of the meeting between Guo Boxiong, Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission and Richard Rhys Jones, head of New Zealand's Defense Force.
"China takes a consistently strategic and long-term view to developing its relationship with New Zealand, and regards New Zealand as a good partner and friend to carry out mutually-beneficial cooperation with in the Asia-Pacific region," Guo said.
"China is willing to work with New Zealand to further promote bilateral relations under the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit," he added.
Guo noted the positive momentum of development between the two militaries with frequent high-level visits and broadened areas of cooperation in recent years.
He said China was satisfied with current military-to-military relations.
Jones said he hoped to further promote high-level visits between the two militaries, increase personnel exchanges, broaden areas of cooperation and continue to advance the two militaries' relationship.
