‘China is the best implementer of Catholic social doctrine,’ says Vatican bishop.

The chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences praised the 'extraordinary' Communist state

“Right now, those who are best implementing the social doctrine of the Church are the Chinese,” a senior Vatican official has said.

Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, praised the Communist state as “extraordinary”, saying: “You do not have shantytowns, you do not have drugs, young people do not take drugs”. Instead, there is a “positive national conscience”.

The bishop told the Spanish-language edition of Vatican Insider that in China “the economy does not dominate politics, as happens in the United States, something Americans themselves would say.”

Bishop Sánchez Sorondo said that China was implementing Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’ better than many other countries and praised it for defending Paris Climate Accord. “In that, it is assuming a moral leadership that others have abandoned”, he added.

He accused US president Donald Trump of being “manipulated” by global oil firms, and said that, as opposed to those who follow “liberal thought”, the Chinese are working for the greater good of the planet.

The Vatican and China have been holding talks in recent years over the status of the ‘underground’ Church and the appointment of bishops. In November, the Vatican Museums also organised joint exhibitions with China in what was called “diplomacy of art”.

As part of the diplomacy efforts, Bishop Sánchez Sorondo visited the country. “What I found was an extraordinary China,” he said. “What people don’t realise is that the central value in China is work, work, work. There’s no other way, fundamentally it is like St Paul said: he who doesn’t work, doesn’t eat.”

Bishop Sánchez Sorondo concluded by saying that China is “developing well” and now has “many points of agreement” with the Vatican.

“You cannot think that the China of today is the China of [the time of] John Paul II, or Cold War Russia,” he said.

China? Catholic social doctrine? Flawless logic.

Wuttt? Oh wait, it gotta be one of the best joke in early 2018. Seems they forgot something important in this living world like: Ok peoples, let learn, make and build anything that bring benefit to all not make or do anything for something you wouldn't understand or doesn't need.

. .
I think so.

Many of the Catholic dominated countries practice free sex culture widely, drugs and cartels.

Of all, definitely China is one of the best Catholic community in the world... For now. Communist party and traditions definitely play a big role.

Interesting, the most atheistic China is the best implementer of Catholic social doctrine! Can't the Vatican bishop find a democratic religious country, like India, to give his complements on? o_O

Lol...

Catholic social model is dead. In fact, Christian social model is pretty much dead everywhere. No country gives a shit about Christianity and people barely even practice it anymore.

China is no way near “Catholic Social model”....Chinese model is unique to China.

Meanwhile, the “hub” of Catholicism, in the Latin American continent, most births are outside of marriage in 2016-17 according to official data :D
Shows how little shits Latin Americans give to Christianity and Catholicism.

The bishop should worry about that and not China

The Catholic church is a full on multinational state-corporate entity utilising a franchise model, religion/spirituality is secondary. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, I have interviewed a few hedge fund managers and those in private equity who have dealt with the Vatican Investment Fund. They are one of the biggest investment funds in the world that rivals many sovereign wealth funds. Exact asset count is a mystery as their assets are segregated and use proxy funds but definitely in the hundreds of billions.

In many countries with "religious freedom" they operate tax free and acquire revenue through churches along with other assets. Funds are centralised and invested into different asset classes globally. That's how they survive and thrive.

Here is what many leaders in the West think about China:
  • Many elites have accepted China's rise, some try to mould it/contain it, and most try to profit off it in different ways. Some are even waiting for China's rise so they can jump on that ship to revive some of their stagnating institutions to stay relevant.
  • They think Chinese government, institutions, and citizens want to be accepted by the western narrative and uses that as a leverage against China or to establish interest groups inside China. By praising or scolding (they are realising scolding doesn't work well) China, they think they can affect China's internal and external policy. Not saying they are evil or have bad intentions but there is a lot of interest involved with this.
The Catholic church is very flexible with their morals if there is interest involved, they have proven it time and time again throughout history. Not necessarily a bad thing, they do it to stay relevant but uses religion as a mask and sometimes fool some naive ones (and there are plenty). In many ways the Catholic church is a parasite, in the modern era they provide no real social or technical benefits for China. The CCP controlled bishop is not much of an issue as that institution is in China's hands but the Holy See is a thousand year old multinational entity that is now a rent seeking entity.

Many religious institutions see China as fertile ground to push their interest groups, some do it for glory some do it for profit and some do it for control, some do it for all three. It is up to China to decide which direction it wants to take.

Churches are being closed on western nations and these guys are targeting east.

I am surprised and how anti-catholic the entire world is to be perfectly honest. Even Australians aren't fans of them.

A very good explanation!

But Chinese should stick with their traditional religions.
