. . .

First, to ensure China's national security against potential threats by effectively monitoring the SCS and enjoying fast-response capability via naval bases.

Second, to ensure the safety of Chinese and international trade across the SCS from non-state threats.

Third, to increase China's force projection capability.

Fourth, organic development. You have got to do something when you become the second most powerful nation on earth, poised to take over the most powerful.

seems kinda imperialist in nature to me :bounce:

No. There is no interference in other nations' internal affairs. There is no over-militarization. China maintains a strict no-first use policy. The five principles of international governance live on.

Nobody is hurt. There is no "South America is our backyard; we can bully as we wish, including installing bloody dictators" attitude here.

It is only claiming land by building up on certain rocks and reefs across the territories China controls.

The point is to ensure national security and provide safety for international trade.

After all, has not this what the US been doing for decades. Sending over ACGs and building up naval bases?

China is as sincere and well-intentioned, if not more.

no point in hiding the imperialist nature nothing wrong with it :bunny:
China want's to control the whole South China Sea and the outlying islands.

Nothing wrong with having certain convictions and if this is what you think, well, we respect that. Apparently, how it seems from there differs from how it seems from here. Nothing wrong with that, too.

What matters is China achieves greater national security through an effective control of the near waters regardless of what others think or believe.

What is next is to build a true blue water navy. China's trade is much more intense than that of the US; hence, China is in more need to ensure SLOC security.
