China in talks to export Pakistan bigger nuke plant

Monday, 20 Sep, 2010

BEIJING: China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) is in discussions to build a 1-gigawatt scale nuclear power plant in Pakistan, after having built two there and signed agreements for two other smaller ones, a CNNC executive said on Monday.

“After the successful, safe operation of the first 300-megawatt reactor in Chashma...the second reactor is now under testing and is expected to start formal operations by the end of this year,” said Qiu Jiangang, vice president of CNNC.

Qiu said the two countries have signed contracts to build the No. 3 and No. 4 reactors of similar size.

Qiu made the remarks at a ceremony in Beijing. China's other leading nuclear power firm, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corp, is launching commercial operations for a new 1-GW nuclear reactor in southern Guangdong province.

1 gigawatt = 1000 megawatt

I think it should satisfy a fair part of our Energy needs :pakistan::china:

and when we are going to built this ?

For now negotiations are happening, wait for some time, as this is not ordinary deal, it would be need money as well as technical evaluations.

Plus, later on we have to face the world powers also who are gonna come out crying, as its Pakistan which is gonna be the buyer.

not really !!!
china has to face world powers as they are the suppliers!!
you just have to foot the bill.
in case china should be able to win exemption.

Of course contingencies will be in place! So far in our other nuclear reactors we haven't had any mishap and we do have experience with nuclear reactors *Touchwood*.
Or perhaps we can learn from our neighbour's experiences. :)

Yup but i think we are not getting the GW Power Plant.

china is blazing all guns!!!
few year ago i had read it was planning investments of 100 billion $ (yeah you correctly it's 100 billion $) in nuclear power plants for electricity

but we would like the deal to be without any strings! its not just about money all the times :agree:

Are you that naive or trying to be ??

Pakistan is already operating nuclear plants, this won't be a first.

So whatever would be bought, would be done after all technical evaluations are done, safety included in it.

Well if you haven't read lately, its Pakistan which gets more of the publicity as the rogue nuclear nation and other idiotic things of such nature, not China.
