i don't think Chinese economy will collapse , not surely in coming decades. actually it is hard for west countries esp. U.S to digest that china is growing par with them. so every now & then they come up with diff. kind of B.S theories.

or is it just a scare tactic by the west... since they are no longer the big boys in the yard, any more....

A lot of Western analysts take one or two things specific to China--like inflation, runaway property prices, and heavy state involvement in business--blow it out of proportion, and say China is either going to become uncompetitive and left behind, or the economy will go into an uncontrollable depression. Perhaps that's what you're referring to when you talk about a China collapse. However, these challenges are not going unmanaged. They receive plenty of attention in the media and in the government.

The most likely trajectory is for China's growth to slow some time in the near future. By another decade or two, China will have the largest GDP, and the GDP per capita of a moderately well off country like Russia and Brazil. Obviously, that is still a long way to go to reach the wealth of a truly developed country.

Finally, the growth of China represent the lifting out of poverty of hundreds of millions of people. That is a great contribution to human welfare and dignity. It is not only an economic accomplishment, it is a moral accomplishment. The west should embrace Chinese growth and applaud it. Instead, many have reacted with fear and dismay, as they fear the eclipsing of their country's monopoly on political and economic dominance. Hence the popularity of China collapse theories.
