China confirms export of eight submarines to Pakistan

Up-to-date features will be incorporated throughout the construction years.. the last ones should have the latest tech incorporated on them.. just remember that these submarines are very sophisticated as we speak..Yuan39 and 41 Qing class.. The price tag is also a good indication of the class, since for 500 million$ a sub it is in par with the German type-214..

That pic shows a sub that would be a member of the russian amur family.... amur 1850 or so, with insert containing vls for eg club missiles

The Yuan 39A or class 41 Qing are a blend of the Chinese Song (Type 39) subs and the Russian Kilo derivatives like the Lada class.. so it is still relevant, since Pakistan and China might want VLS on theirs too..

Pakistan Navy's Project S-26/Type 032 Qing-Class & Project S-30/Type 032 Qing-Class Submarines

China’s R & D programme to develop the double-hulled Project S-26/Type 032 Qing-class and Project S-30/Type 032 Qing-class SSK submarines—all to be powered by China-developed Stirling Engine air-independent propulsion systems—was begun in January 2005.

The first and only S-26 was launched at Wuchang Shipyard in Wuhan in September 2010, and it completed its harbour-trials by September 2012. Its sea-trials commenced on October 16, 2012 in the Bohai Sea. The S-26 has a length of 92.6 metres, width of 10 metres, hydroplane width of 13 metres and a height of 17.2 metres. It has a draught of 6.85 metres when surfaced with a displacement of 3,797 tons. It operates at a submerged depth of 160 metres, but can dive as deep as 200 metres. Maximum surfaced speed is 10 Knots and maximum submerged speed is 14 Knots. It can operate with a crew of 88 for 30 days without resupply, or 200 crewmen for three days.

The S-30 will have a submerged displacement of 6,628 tons, and will be armed with four vertically-launched Babur long-range land-attack cruise missiles and two submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM), most likely the upgraded JL-1 SLBM. Construction of the first S-30 is presently underway at Wuhan. Deliveries, however, will not commence until 2020 at best.

The S-26 and S-30 submarines are being developed by China solely for the Pakistan Navy, and they will not enter service with the PLA Navy. The Pakistan Navy will procure four S-26s and four S-30s. China will also supply Pakistan with a submarine rebuild centre (SRC) that will be located at Ormara, and a VLF communications facility that will be located at Turbat. Deliveries of the S-26 submarines will begin by 2017.

Pakistan will import an AIP solution.

Pakistan cannot build submarines like this at home, not without undertaking significant capacity building in advanced metallurgy (for undersea applications), propulsion technology, sensors, etc.

Need to promote local industry first.

The Type 032 submarine (NATO code name Qing class) is a class of diesel-electric submarine currently undergoing testing in China's People's Liberation Army Navy. It is said to be the world's largest conventional submarine, at a submerged displacement of 6628 tons and is able to submerge for a maximum of 30 days. The Type 032 has a similar ventral "bay" to the Golf class submarine that protrudes downward.
The submarine is a testbed for new technologies such as combustion powered torpedoes, compartments for special forces, underwater unmanned vehicles, new SLBMs, new cruise missiles, new anti ship missiles, new SAMs, and a new escape pod which are applied to theType 095 and Type 096 submarines.

2014 CIMPS in GuangDong, ZhongShan city. China official showed a 032 submarine model to the exhibition.

032 sub's weapon system:
2x torpedo tubes
5x VLS missiles
1x escape trunk
2x sub-launched ballistic missiles

Future new subs will install VLS and can launch anti-aircraft missiles and cruise missiles. 032 sub is the first one to test latest weapon system for PLAN submarines.

its difficult to say what we are getting, my gut feeling is that it is the simple s-20 with AIP, but it depends upon the cost, if it is the s-20 the cost would be around 200-300 million a piece i.e 2-3 billion dollars, if indeed, is not an s-20 variant than the cost would be around 4-5 billion dollars.

BEIJING: China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation has confirmed a project to export eight attack submarines to Pakistan, top English newspaper of China People's Daily reported.

The corporation held a conference to discuss the details of the arrangement.

The corporation's chairman Hu Wenming, said the conference aimed to continue the spirit generated by Chinese President Xi Jinping's speeches on the Belt & Road Construction Work Symposium.

Reuters reported back in April that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the deal and called the deal could be "one of China's largest overseas weapons sales once it is signed".

The deal could cost between 4 billion to 5 billion USD, Reuters quoted a Financial Times report.

Four of the eight submarines will reportedly be built at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW) while the remaining four submarines will be built in China.

When being asked about the deal last year, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said:" China and Pakistan are neighbors of traditional friendship with close cooperation in various fields. The normal cooperation between the two sides in the field of military industry and trade is in line with their respective international commitment".

thanks for re-confirming what we already knew. lets hope work starts on this much delayed project.

I could be wrong, but from what I understand, the issue of the delay is because the final design has not been confirmed yet. Specs are still being finalized.

All eight of them don't have to be S-20s. Pakistan should ask for at least three larger Qing class subs with SLBM capability that is if China is willing to sell them to Pakistan.

Afaik s20 with aip. Dont know the type of aip but if sterling then thats a form of aip that has seen little further development in the past 2 decades.

Which is the latest AIP solutions today ? Aren't sterling a new solution?
