China has commissioned a new-generation home-grown missile frigate, ‘Xiangtan’.

Xiangtan was commissioned by China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in the east China island city of Zhoushan Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

With the hull number 531, Xiangtan is 140 meters long and 16 meters wide, and its displacement is more than 4,000 tonnes.

The missile frigate is one of PLAN's new generation main battle warships. It can attack enemy ships and submarines alone or in coordination with other naval forces. It has strong remote surveillance and anti-aircraft combat abilities.

The frigate was named after the city of Xiangtan, Hunan Province.

My question to Chinese members is that "Is this report right" ? 4000 tonnes mean really big Frigate ?

In China, most probably. But usually anything 4,000 tonnes or above is not a frigate. Right?

Frigates = 2500-5000 tonnes
Light destroyers = 5000-7500 tonnes

Yes, it is a frigate, tho it can be also classified as 'heavy' frigate.

On Feb. 24, a ceremony for the commission of the new-type missile frigate Xiangtan was held in a port in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province. Probably something wrong in translation.
I believe pennant 531 is the 22nd Type-054A frigate commissioned into active duty.
And Type-054A is a new-gen class of frigate around 4,053 tonnes.

Destroyers should be significantly larger, say from 7,500 tonnes of the currently deployed Type-052D to more than 10,000 tonnes of next-gen Type-055 under construction.

There were unofficial sources saying Type-055 (or 055A) is going with IEPS (Integrated Electric Propulsion System, developed by Wuhan Institute of Marine Electric Propulsion aka Institute 712) with four QC-280 gas turbines, what do you think?

'cause 055 is quite big destroyer, expect it has the proper defense system

We haven't seen any signs of the Type 055 other than what were purported to be its modules. Module assembly itself would take almost a full year.
