China and Bhutan reach deal on Himalayan border talks ‘in test for India’

After 1962 war, Chairman Mao said "This war will guarantee 50 years peace at China-India border". From his tone you can clearly see China is the one that desires peace. China's attention is on east land and sea border. Mao was right. 50 years is long enough for India to forget the pain. The 1962 India is back.

India was weaker than China in 1962. India is much much weaker than China in 2021. The gap between India and China has drastically increased that now it is impossible for India to catchup to China. China knows that India is very weak and begging for a deal but China do not want to give a fair deal. I don't blame the Chinese for this. China is looking for her interests. India failed herself to get into this unenviable situation. We know we have to accept whatever Chinese decide and sign on that dotted line.

Why would China instigate conflict with India when it was already getting attacked every day by the US? That makes no sense whatsoever.
And China chose the worst timing when the whole country was blocked because of the covid to provoke India.

That is NOT a proof that he supported China. It is only a proof that he supported India (or his own state) and he knew how to get Chinese investment to help India (or his own state).

Of course he was begging Chinese to invest in his state and it proves that he was not against China.

That doesn't prove he was not against China. Just like it doesn't prove that China was not against US when she needs US backing to get into WTO. Don't let politicians' move of practicality to trick you to think that is their true sentiment.

India wasn’t much weaker than China in 1962, in fact it was ahead in many areas.

But not in military term. After the war, China returned most of the weapons seized from Indian troops. In the propaganda, Chinese media said it was a gesture of good will. In reality, Chinese army thought those were just piles of garbage.

He may needs to appease some politicians who would like to be more aggressive.

I do not think there is any politician or bureaucrat that can challenge Modi. Modi continues to be in favor of China. He refuses to name China as the aggressor and He will not stop trading with China despite hostile actions being taken by China against India. Modi is completely pro-China. No one in India disputes this.

At beginning of 2020, China was not in a good position. US attacks. Covid, Desperately needs India support politically and economically(China was actually concerning losing US market because of Trump's tariff). Modi saw all of those.

Unless you think he is as powerful as a dictator, he probably still needs to form alliances, which mean some catering to others' agenda.

India did not have food grains to eat and we were begging and dependent on the US for food aid since 1951.

Modi has full majority and He is undisputed leader in his party too.

China literally had famines in the late 50s. Either way, China and India were roughly comparable in development until probably the 80s.

And Trump was going against India too by limiting H1B visas. Trump was pro-US not pro-India.

Yes but China has drastically risen between 1970 to 2010 while India stagnated and fallen off. Today China is zillions of miles ahead of India. In fact it would be a shame to compare China and India today. China has surpassed US in many areas while India is falling behind even South Asian and African countries. There is simply no comparison and it is criminal to compare India and China today.

Let's not get into a game of who is the poorer sucker. :D

Why would anyone think Trump being pro-India?

Trump was a protectionist so it was nothing personal against India. Towards the end of his term, Pompeo basically drove his foreign policy and he invested a lot of efforts in recruiting Modi into an anti China alliance. This was from last year.

That's why India would do whatever it needs to grasp the opportunity offered by US to become next China. Which includes provoking China. As US needed.
