This is an open discussion about China's industrial future, under the background of growing salary and increasing productivity per capita. The topic may be too large, but don't hesitate to contribute your ideas and suggestions.
Trolls are not welcome.

Growing salary, growing living standards, growing desire for higher education
Declining work hours, declining willingness to do simple labor work
What is China's industrial future?
How should China better integrate into the East Asia-ASEAN manufacturing powerhouse?

Very very nice payment. Young guys can study there and have a good career planning.

3500~4500RMB/month is not very much in ShenZhen , but Foxconn has apartment and household appliances and free laundry. it is quite reasonable for a unskilled young people.

The cost of human resource is getting higher . We still need to keep some labor intensive industries when we focus on the developing of high tech industry.

We have so many people and we all need a job to feed our families.

Wow. Despite some negative news about Foxconn I know if I was an unskilled Chinese worker, I would apply in a heartbeat. Chinese are lucky because unskilled workers are valued in China due to real growth from manufacturing.

Manufacturing creates real wealth for people. Chinese must not lose the competitive edge in manufacturing. I see growth in manufacturing with more automation.

In Canada, the insanity is creeping in as customer service jobs that pay like shit require a university degree. The reason is, we have very little manufacturing left. Most jobs are service oriented jobs that do not pay well. Our government policies have forced many manufacturing to leave the country.

70% of the companies are foreign owned, making work life hell for workers as corporate HQ do not care about Canadian workers. But I digress. The topic is Chinese manufacturing.

Chinese manufacturing is not close to peak yet even though we are number one in mass production of goods. I would not worry about rising wages because wages should go up for people when companies becomes more prosperous.

Companies are not leaving China as predicted by China’s big mouth adversaries. When you have people lining up for a mile to get into a store and 20m phones are sold in one week, that is the power of Chinese consumers --that power will increase

And yes, I would work at Foxconn even if wages a bit low but u get free accommodation and facilities.

Yes, 3.4-4k yuan per month is perhaps one of the least salary in manufacturing in Shenzhen, but free food and dorm is very good conditions. And more and more amateur workers are growing to skilled workers and technicians through in-job training and a variety of courses provided by the company. This leads to urgent need in boosting productivity and founding our own supply chain to companies like Foxconn.

I pay my fresh recruit around 3000RMB per month```but the benefits and bonus are roughly around 5-15 times of their monthly income````

however, the IT staff we pay around 7,500-20,000 depending on their previouse experience in complex projects

so it is quite ok for unskilled workers to work in Foxconn```

at the end day we are just a small company

Everybody in any developing country should enjoy some benefits of social and economic development. Their income and living standards have increased a lot recently, good news for those fresh young men/women who have just left their villages without too much higher education. Hope they can receive more knowledge and skills from a variety of training programs. I'm sure they are not satisfied with only 3500-4500yuan per month. They choose Shenzhen as their first stop, the most dynamic Chinese city with vibrant entrepreneur spirit, some of them may become big bosses in the future like those renowned entrepreneurs from the remote countryside, who knows!

When their salary increase, being one of the highest in developing countries in East Asia-ASEAN, something should be done to boost productivity per capita, which should be increasing faster than increase of salary. Sometimes factory owners themselves lack a sort of motivation, they'd rather move factory to interior of China or to Southwest Asia with the static old-style technology. They should be motived by some kinds of policies, from central government and local government. Some provinces in China have done well so far, but some are not.

China's salary already exceeded Malaysia. Near Singapore parity.

Any ideas about why is salary of Malaysian workers stuck in some level?
I'd like to see the monthly income of an 18-year old unskilled workers in China reaches 6000-8000 yuan.
The precondition is they reserve such income, even they are unskilled at first, with the help of technology.

The government has allowed Labor Union to import foreign labor. Wide spread of human trafficking allow illegals to work at very low wages. Half of Malaysia labor or 6 million are foreigners. There are no incentive for technology and productivity enhancement methods when labor are so cheap. Brain drain and dysfunctional political system are making it difficult to transition into higher value added industry.
