Chabahar port plan on fast-track

TAPI project is dead. Even Tajikistan the supplying nation gave it up and now is building another pipe line to sell the gas meant for TAPI to China. TAPI did not even have a technical feasibility study done which was deemed to be very challenging as the pipe line had to pass through mountains of Afghanistan for a thousand kilometers something which has never been done before and if ever done would have been extremely expensive and difficult to guard against attacks by terrorists.

TAPI is alive and kicking as it already has ADB funding in place unlike IPI and even Russia is on board try using google perhaps next time

Don't worry, the indians have that covered, they will deploy thousands of troops to guard every inch of that thousand kilometer pipeline while simultaneously fighting off the Taliban, Incredible india's economy can afford to spend billions of dollars every month, something NATO won't be able to do lolz!!

Lol.It seems this Chabhar port is already starting to give our dear neighbours some serious shivering through down their spines even before its completion. That means a crucial objective of this project has been already achieved.I am enjoying their frustration here.

They are even more mad that the the fate of much touted Gwadar is still in limbo.

Yeah, we are shivering sooo much that the power plant in Chabahar is providing electricity for Gawadar Deep Sea port

Dude, do you even read the news? IP (future IPC) has almost half of the pipe line built. Iran has completed its section and it is only Pakistani section which remains. All agreements signed down to opening day and billing. TAPI on the hand is a wet dream. Not even a meter of the pipe line exists. Even the feasibility studies are not done. It was just a proposal by US to counter Iran, that is all. TAPI only exists in Indian dreams other wise Tajikistan has already sold the gas meant for supplying TAPI to China and Russia, it does not have any more reserves for this wet dream. You will continue to use your LPG cylinders for a long long time now. Piped gas into Indian homes remained just a wet dream unfortunately.

You mean the Gawadar that the Power plant in Chabahar is providing electricity to? Don't worry, the required rail network to transport the goods from Gawadar to rest of Pakistan and to China, Russia, and CAR's is being constructed as we speak, tunnels have been made through mountains in Kashmir, the Karakorum highway is being upgraded, and new rail networks and road are being built in Northern Pakistan planned to go through the Wakhan Corridor, through Central Asian Republics, and into Russia.:D

So Gwadar didnt have electricity so far ?

Now we do, thanks to power plant in Chabahar :D, and that power plant in Chabahar will continue to provide electricity until we construct our own power plant in Gawadar.

It was not economically feasible to build a transmission line to Gwader since Gwader is far away. Iran has plenty of gas so they have a natural gas combined cycle plant built with Indian money by an Iranian company named Tanavir, supplying both Chabahar and Gwader. See the ingenuity of Iranians.

Love it, i just love it , Thanks indians for funding that power plant that is now providing electricity to Pakistan's Gawadar :yahoo:

What that has still got to do with Iran and Chabahar?

So the Chinese built a port without the power plant you mean ?

Always living on donors money huh? Pathetic

What that has still got to do with Iran and Chabahar?

Chabahar is providing Gawadar with Electricity through an indian funded, Iranian built power plant! And BTW, did you even read the post i was replying to?

We're paying for the electricity, though Iranians are providing it cheap!

Does long brain have a link to the source of that claim ? That Chabrahar power plant will power Gwadar port ??

DUSHANBE: Russia is ready to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to join high- voltage power line and gas pipeline projects in central Asia, President Dmitry Medvedev said in Tajik capital of Dushanbe.

Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan welcome Russias interest in a gas pipeline project across the countries to India, according to a joint statement signed by Medvedev and the countries Presidents here Friday after a summit with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon. It also called for accelerated construction of the CASA-1000 power project.

Afghanistan is seeking to develop the country as a bridge for energy supplies from Central Asian hydro-electric and gas resources to power-hungry economies of Pakistan & India. U.S. has supported efforts, seeking to stabilize the country before pulling out its major combat forces, a step it plans for 2014.

Tajikistan seeks to export electricity to Afghanistan through a 220-kilovolt power line that will form backbone of CASA-1000 project. Afghan officials said the line will be extended to Pakistan, whose 180 million people face electricity shortages of 3 to 4 gigawatts per day, leading to blackouts that have lasted for 12 hours in cities.

In December, President Karzai, President Zardari and officials from India & Turkmenistan signed an agreement to build a 1700-kilometer gas pipeline from Turkmenistans gas fields.

TAPI project faces war zones and insurgency along the route through Afghanistan & Pakistan. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin said in October that its gas export monopoly, OAO Gazprom, might join TAPI venture.
