Sectarian violence breaks out again in north-west of the country after rumours of a sexual assault

Fresh sectarian violence broke out in north-western Burma late on Saturday when Buddhist mobs burned down dozens of homes and shops following rumours that a young woman had been sexually assaulted by a Muslim man. There were no reports of injuries.

Myanmar's radical monk Wirathu, whose anti-Muslim rhetoric has placed him at the centre of rising religious violence, said on his Facebook page that hundreds of people took part in the riot on the outskirts of Kantbalu.

A crowd surrounded the police station demanding that the suspect be handed over, said a police officer from the area, who asked not to be named because he did not have authority to speak to the media. When police refused, they started setting buildings on fire, he said. About 35 houses and 12 shops, most belonging to Muslims, were destroyed before calm was restored, he said.

Predominantly Buddhist Burma has been grappling with sectarian violence since the country's military rulers handed over power to a nominally civilian government in 2011.

More than 250 people have been killed, most of them Muslims, and 140,000 others forced to flee their homes.

The unrest began last year in the western state of Rakhine, where Buddhists accuse Rohingya Muslims of illegally entering the country and encroaching on their land. The violence, on a smaller scale but still deadly, spread earlier this year to other parts of the country.

Burmese muslim are not pure, let them die, Muslim ummah are busy with Kashmir.

1.The source of this Muslim - Buddhist conflict is an Arakanese Rakhine woman,Mra Raja Ling. She is a refugee living in Dhaka but travels regularly to her handlers in Burma. She is married to a BD Rakhine. She is the Secretary of the BD Rakhine Association. She is also chief of the women's wing of NUPA whch is a Rakhine insurgent group suspected to be behind the Ramu affair and anti-Muslim riots in Arakan.Just before the Ramu temple affair she had visited Burma. And almost always when she visits Burma there is a Buddhist-Muslim clash.

2. The Ramu temple incident is now taking its toll in SL, Indonesia, Burma and BD itself. There is tension elsewhere where Muslims and Buddhists have been living in peace and friendship for centuries.

Casuality is still not one lakh like Syria, sooo...International community should wait till it crosses that red line.

Tell me one more time that Buddhists are all peaceful people? The world doesn't care because these poor muslims are not sitting on land rich in minerals etc. The "muslim ummah" is too busy fighting each other for the control of the middle east.
It's all about the money dear.

Man makes religion, religion does not make man. The state and the society produce religion, which is an inverted consciousness of the world.Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. And, It is nothing but the opium for the masses. Why do they take it seriously???:hitwall:

If this realization grows, all these nonsense will stop.

In Burma is more of a clash of ethnicities rather than religion.
