Canada refuses visa to former cop, says BSF ‘violent force’
Amrita Chaudhry Posted online: Sun May 23 2010, 00:04 hrs

Ludhiana : When the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi refused visa to Fateh Singh Pandher, a retired BSF constable, it cited an unusual reason.
Eric Verner, First Secretary, Immigration, wrote to him that his association with a “notoriously violent force” was the reason he was denied visa.

“As per open source research, the BSF is a violent paramilitary unit stationed in the areas that the government of India considers to be sensitive¿ The BSF has engaged in systematic attacks on civilians and has been responsible for systematically torturing suspected criminals... You voluntarily joined the BSF as constable in 1975 and were promoted to a Head Constable in 1993,” Verner wrote on December 8, 2009. “However, a court-accepted notion of complicity is defined as personal and knowing participation¿You have admitted to being aware tha the BSF was responsible for committing crimes against humanity but gave no indication that you disassociated yourself from them and remained with the organization for 25 years until you voluntarily retired in 2000,” he wrote.

“Given the above, there are reasonable grounds to believe you are a member of the inadmissible class of persons in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.”

I don't know how many of you sees this as a tragic and sad incident. A poor and very young girl was just following her fathers instruction. Too young and illiterate to understand much of the dangers......and to die like that is not Right...God Intervene please.

I pray for her soul, her father.

To Bangladeshi members I want to jsut say that I am extremey sorry that such a thing happened...I hope more sense prevails on the authorities....

Here's what the article say:

One girl was shot dead at Thursday late night on India-Bangladesh border when she was trying to cross over the barbed fence. According to Police, as no one has claimed her body till today's evening, so it seems the girl is of Bangladesh Origin. Police sent the body for post-portem, BSF also has started a parallel investigation to know the identity of her. Locals agitated after finding the body hanging on the barbed fence today morning. Why not the girls was arrested but shot, they question.

Canada apologizes to India over visa denial

New Delhi, May 28: Canada expressed the regrets in the use of language which cast 'false impressions' during its visa denial procedures to the members of Indian armed forces and security institutions. Canada also assured that it is reviewing the adaptation policy.

Jason Kenney, Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Minister deeply regretted the incident. Letters drafted by his consular officials during routine visa refusals cast 'false aspersions' on the legitimacy of work carried out by Indian defence and security institutions.

He also acknowledged that Indian defence and security institutions operated under the framework of 'democratic processes and the rule of law' and assessments made about candidates in no way questioned the functioning of these organisations.

Indian Home Ministry had written to External Affairs Ministry that it would retaliate if Canada is not ready to take proper actions. India wanted Canadian High Commission to apologise for such behaviour.

Sad, a life has to end this way. BDR should do more to stop people from crossing border illegely and I agree with villegers, BSF should of arrested her. There is not need to shoot just for crossing, I can understand if terrorists are crossing with thier guns or smuglers but there is no need to shoot civilians like this.:disagree:

Ohoi!
You illegal people come here and sleep on roads, pavements.
We feed huge chunk of illegal bongaladeshis in India.Though killing is sad.But India bashing is even more sad!

Jeez. Look closely at the photo. Its one of our BSF female soldiers checking whether your Pakistani jawan on the other side is awake. We usually do that in the early hours of the morning on the Indo-Pak border...help the Pakistani jawan stay awake :D

A girl is dead, the poster is taking cheap shot at her dead body after BSF shoots her dead.

a few quick thoughts

india is perfectly within her right to protect her borders and keep people who are not welcome or not authorized to enter the country from doing so

however, i still reiterate that shooting a teenage girl who is clearly not a threat, is very unacceptable....

we get annoyed when indians meddle and analyze our internal affairs, so i wont delve further into it for the sake of avoiding cross-chatter and garble.

but this is something the indian should think about; heavy-handedness is no stranger on that border. Often innocent people are detained, harassed and even killed.

hmmm.....you DO realise that if our forces are killed by your troops while staying INSIDE our territory, that will be regarded as an act of war......

we don't want to kill your soldier but to hurt them so that they don't shoot at our civilian . we have our right to save our civilian.

Issue is not equipping BDR with modern equipments. They are already equipped with those including long-range sniper rifles. The only issue is the political will. If the govt allows BDR to take live bullets, and has a standing order to shoot at BSF in such a circumstance, they will obey the order.

These killings by BSF without any protest by the AL regime are not going unnoticed by the population. AL will have to hide into oblivion after the next general election. Peace with India is good for economy. But, peace without revenge killing is not acceptable to us.

even so...killiing our soldiers in YOUR land would be ok....but we are well within our rights to protect our borders by killing civilians who violate them...i mean why should bangladesh support its civilians when they break the law??

why dot you try saving your civilian by stopping them from trying to cross the border?

jodi apna ra nijeder lokeder aatkaben naa...tahole to amader baddho hoye guli maartei hobe naa?

thing is that...killing civilians who violate a border is deemed acceptable by policy....killing forces of another country who are merely doing their job by protecting their borders being inflitrated by your people..is deemed an act of war...

what your govt. SHOULD do is to stop these people from crossing so that we dont have to shoot them....

i mean
you dont stop them...but you complain when we kill them.....add to that your forces trying to kill our forces so they cant guard our borders......that roughly translates into expansionism

.
Look, the long and short of it is that our soldiers and para militaries who guard our borders do not know who are terrorist scum bags and who are just innocent civilians trying to eke a living out by smuggling their labour onto our land. Until we have terrorist scum bags blowing off bombs in our country and shooting willy nilly in our cities, I say to our soldiers and para militaries who guard our borders....shoot to kill any infiltrators. Its a pity that we have to live with this policy but unfortunately we also became a victim of circumstances like that young girl. We dont pay our soldiers to investigate. We pay them to defend our land at all costs. If Bangladeshis or anybody else want to enter Hindustan, do it the proper way or go out the sad way.
