BJP condemns Pakistan's test firing of cruise missile
DIMAPUR, AUG 04 (PTI)
The BJP today condemned Pakistan's test firing of a cruise missile and urged the UPA government to take up with the world community the violation of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) by Islamabad.
BJP National President Rajnath Singh alleged that Pakistan recently fired India specific cruise missile for which China reportedly supplied the technology. "This is a flagrant violation of the MTCR."
Singh, who was here for the party's organisational matters, told newsmen that such activities of the two neighbours would only escalate the arms race in South-East Asia and it would not serve the interest of peace in the region.
He appealed to the Centre to take the issue to the UN Security Council to pin down Beijing for transferring technology to Islamabad, asserting that the UPA regime should not let up security preparedness on the borders.
Asked about the party's stands on the 123 agreement between India and the US, the text of which was released yesterday, the BJP president said he was yet to see it, but asserted that development of a credible nuclear deterrent by India should not be questioned and New Delhi should never compromise its strategic autonomy.
Singh addressed the BJP Nagaland executive here and spoke of strengthening the political alliance with its partner Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) so that the coalition could continue to remain in power in the state.
