All guerilla warfare and most irregular warfare is like that, the combatants on one side will live among and operate from civilian areas. The distinction between combatant and civilian will be hazy. This is not unique to TTP.

That is the point that some pakistani posters here miss, when they shower praises on the afghan taliban and boast about them "defeating" superpower USA. The fact is that the US would not bomb the crap out of all the mountainous and insurgency ridden areas, because the talib fighters live among non combatants. A B-52 or two of them can probably flatten then entire country in a day, if it is really a question of USA "winning'. Jus because they don't do that, supposedly the talibs there "win".

It is the same in Pakistan. Other than flattening half your landmass, there is really no way to wage a war from the air. Security forces will have to do target operations on the ground. As for them "hiding behind" their wives and kids, welcome to irregular/guerilla war. Nothing new in that.

Spot on! Most posters here seem clueless of what it takes to fight in an insurgency environment. They just keep repeating the same old cliches - 'kill the buggers' - 'PA should now wipe them out' - 'enough is enough! Time to destroy them' - and so on. It ain't that easy. If it was, the TTP would have been decimated long ago.

If the Afghan Taliban can cock a snook at the Americans and send them packing, so can the TTP thumb its nose at the PA! COIN ops are a different ball game altogether. Advantage is always with the insurgents. The ratio needed to fight them is 20:1. How much has the PA pitted against them?

USA does not need "non state actors" to wage war against any country, least of all Pakistan. Their armed forces are more than capable of decimating any country. Such tactics like "non state jokers" are for states that don't stand a chance in conventional war. And such tactics don't work against a determined nation anyway. (As many non state jokers have realized in Kashmir.)

If USA wanted to wage war on Pak, it would send in three carrier strike groups and a few marine expeditionary units. The resulting war will last only a few days at most.

Get rid of this delusion that all this is happening because of CIA/Mossad/RAW. Until you accept the fact that these are YOUR citizens waging war against YOUR country, you will not be able to tackle them properly.

Most of development happen in South India and unfortunately we dont have borders with them. So Pakistan don't have to look at India. Most of terrorism happen in Fata and KPK. And in Indian case their Easter states.
